Nice local option, has been around for a long time. If you’re traveling 81, it’s not far off the highway and is easy to get to. Definitely consider popping by for a local option verses the fast food off every exit. Mexican and Italian options. Food is fresh and delicious, have never had any problems with cleanliness or errors. Dine in or take out. Parking available both sides of the building with a handicap ramp. Recommend their subs as they use homemade rolls, or their nachos supreme which is always LOADED and can’t be beat portion to price wise.

Came here for lunch (first time for me, second for my family). Service was very friendly, portions were huge. I ordered the lunch lasagna which was very reasonably priced below $11. My aunt and uncle wanted to split a chefs salad so we asked for an extra plate. Instead, the salad came out in two separate bowls, laid out like we ordered two salads. They also split a sandwich and fries into two separate baskets for another in our party who wanted to share. The food itself was delicious, great lasagna not overloaded with pasta, fresh greens on the salad, good burger and the steak fajitas were great as well with a big platter of beans and rice and salad. Generous basket of garlic bread was also provided. Will definitely be back.

The food was amazing in this hidden gem of a Tex-Mex restaurant tucked just off I-81 along the MD-PA state line. There are so many menu options I wish I lived more local to have the ability to try more items! We loved the pepperoni knots with marinara sauce as our appetizer. The seasoned fries were crunchy and delicious and the nachos and sandwich were incredible too! This is a spot to visit again indeed! Super friendly staff and great service made this a memorable visit in a quaint town.

I love that the place is always clean, servers are always kind and helpful, and the food is always great. The prices are good, and the servings are typically large. They specialize in Mexican and Italian dishes with some sandwiches, wraps, subs, and salads available too. I love the Fajitas, Garlic bread, Greek salad, Burritos, Creamy Chicken Marsala, and Chicken Victoria.

My wife and I are always looking for a good place to eat without having to drive an hour or two from home.
We have driven past Il Castello’s several times and decided to give it a try.
I read some of the reviews, and they sounded encouraging.
The reviews were true and accurate.
The food is amazing.
I had the shrimp Diavolo, and my wife had the shrimp with ham in a vodka sauce.
The Diavioo had the right amount of heat.
My wife’s dish was even better, if that’s possible.
The dinner entrées come with a salad and fresh baked garlic bread.
The portion sizes are enormous. We had leftovers for another full meal.
The pasta and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The sauces are handmade in the restaurant, not from a can.
Our server Bo was very attentive and pleasant.
The front dining area is small but comfortable, but there is additional seating in the rear.
There is plenty of parking in the front and back of the building.
The restaurant is clean and bright.
Prices are incredibly fair for the portion sizes served.
For a small restaurant, the menu is extensive. Besides Italian food, they also serve Tex Mex.
We will definitely be back and have already recommended it to some friends.
We highly recommend this restaurant.

We visited this restaurant for the first time and were extremely disappointed. After being seated, we waited more than eight minutes before anyone greeted us, no menus, no water, nothing. When the server finally handed us menus, he immediately asked if we were ready to order, which made no sense since we had just received them. He then disappeared for another 10+ minutes before returning to take our order.

We ordered a pizza, a sub, and a pasta. During the wait, we noticed tables seated well after us receiving their food, which made us think our server never rang in our order. We ended up waiting over 50 minutes from the moment we ordered, and in that entire time, our server never checked on us, never apologized, and never acknowledged the delay.

After more than an hour of actually being physically in the restaurant and only one of our three items (the pizza) arriving, we told him we needed boxes and the check because we had an event to attend. He said “okay” and disappeared again for several minutes. When he returned, he only brought a box for the pizza. I asked about the sub and pasta, and he just shrugged and said they weren’t ready yet… No explanation, no apology.

We told him we needed to leave and would just pay for the pizza. He went to the back again, and after several more minutes came out with a bag labeled “sub,” and a pizza box with a container of pasta inside of it, telling the cashier to remove the sub from our check. I thought they were at least trying to make things right by giving us the food to-go and the sub on the house. We left, only to find out the bag contained nothing but the garlic bread that came with the pasta. They never told us we wouldn’t receive the actual sub and still never apologized once. I know we asked to just pay for the pizza but when he came out with all of that, we assumed they finished up the items quickly.

Because of all this, we arrived 30 minutes late to a ticketed event. Later, when I tried the pasta, it was extremely overcooked, mushy, and oddly cut into tiny pieces. I’ve never seen an Italian restaurant cut angel hair pasta into small bites. That was very off putting. The sauce tasted like pizza sauce, not marinara. The pizza itself was fine, but it was supposed to be for the next day, my husband ended up eating it because he never got his dinner.

I understand when restaurants are busy; I’ve worked in the industry for 17 years. But the lack of communication, accountability, and basic courtesy from the staff is what really made this experience so frustrating. Even the table next to us was openly complaining about similar issues. An apology or acknowledgment of the situation would have gone a long way and would have made me return to try a different item, as I’ve heard the food here is good.

Overall, the service was terrible, the food was subpar, and the experience left us extremely disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We dined here Sunday February 8, 2026 and overall the experience was disappointing due to how a concern was handled. It was 53° inside the restaurant, and we were dining with an infant, which made it especially uncomfortable. I politely mentioned this to the manager, but he offered no response at all — no acknowledgment, explanation, or attempt to help. He actually just walked away.
What made it worse was that one of the employees later commented that they’d probably get yelled at later because I said something to him. That felt unprofessional and put the blame on staff instead of addressing the actual issue.
I understand restaurants can’t always control everything, but basic acknowledgment and concern for guest comfort — especially with a baby — goes a long way. Unfortunately, that was missing here. I don’t recommend dining in the back room.

UPDATE:
The owner of the restaurant reached out and assured me they had a technician look into the issue the very next day.

I love this place…the menu is extensive. They offer Italian, Tex-Mex, Sandwiches, Salads and more. All made to order. Fresh homemade bread to die for piping hot…butter just ozes over it. My favorite is Shrimp Trivialo….Such a large serving with salad and bread…. support this business. Went again the other day…it keeps getting better. This time shrimp tacos. I love this place. Great service…very comfortable place.

Spotless for being clean. Welcomed and seated upon entering.Server was very polite and patient when we were ordering. Menu has vast selections with Italian, Tex/Mex, Pizzeria, America (burgers, fries, etc. ) Children’s menu and handicap accessible and parking. Food served hot and fresh and homemade on site. Delicious and presentation excellant. Had doubts about the establishment, but that was quickly reversed. In general, I loved Castello’s and highly reccomend.
