Reviews
We have driven past Il Castello’s several times and decided to give it a try.
I read some of the reviews, and they sounded encouraging.
The reviews were true and accurate.
The food is amazing.
I had the shrimp Diavolo, and my wife had the shrimp with ham in a vodka sauce.
The Diavioo had the right amount of heat.
My wife’s dish was even better, if that’s possible.
The dinner entrées come with a salad and fresh baked garlic bread.
The portion sizes are enormous. We had leftovers for another full meal.
The pasta and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The sauces are handmade in the restaurant, not from a can.
Our server Bo was very attentive and pleasant.
The front dining area is small but comfortable, but there is additional seating in the rear.
There is plenty of parking in the front and back of the building.
The restaurant is clean and bright.
Prices are incredibly fair for the portion sizes served.
For a small restaurant, the menu is extensive. Besides Italian food, they also serve Tex Mex.
We will definitely be back and have already recommended it to some friends.
We highly recommend this restaurant.
We ordered a pizza, a sub, and a pasta. During the wait, we noticed tables seated well after us receiving their food, which made us think our server never rang in our order. We ended up waiting over 50 minutes from the moment we ordered, and in that entire time, our server never checked on us, never apologized, and never acknowledged the delay.
After more than an hour of actually being physically in the restaurant and only one of our three items (the pizza) arriving, we told him we needed boxes and the check because we had an event to attend. He said “okay” and disappeared again for several minutes. When he returned, he only brought a box for the pizza. I asked about the sub and pasta, and he just shrugged and said they weren’t ready yet… No explanation, no apology.
We told him we needed to leave and would just pay for the pizza. He went to the back again, and after several more minutes came out with a bag labeled “sub,” and a pizza box with a container of pasta inside of it, telling the cashier to remove the sub from our check. I thought they were at least trying to make things right by giving us the food to-go and the sub on the house. We left, only to find out the bag contained nothing but the garlic bread that came with the pasta. They never told us we wouldn’t receive the actual sub and still never apologized once. I know we asked to just pay for the pizza but when he came out with all of that, we assumed they finished up the items quickly.
Because of all this, we arrived 30 minutes late to a ticketed event. Later, when I tried the pasta, it was extremely overcooked, mushy, and oddly cut into tiny pieces. I’ve never seen an Italian restaurant cut angel hair pasta into small bites. That was very off putting. The sauce tasted like pizza sauce, not marinara. The pizza itself was fine, but it was supposed to be for the next day, my husband ended up eating it because he never got his dinner.
I understand when restaurants are busy; I’ve worked in the industry for 17 years. But the lack of communication, accountability, and basic courtesy from the staff is what really made this experience so frustrating. Even the table next to us was openly complaining about similar issues. An apology or acknowledgment of the situation would have gone a long way and would have made me return to try a different item, as I’ve heard the food here is good.
Overall, the service was terrible, the food was subpar, and the experience left us extremely disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
What made it worse was that one of the employees later commented that they’d probably get yelled at later because I said something to him. That felt unprofessional and put the blame on staff instead of addressing the actual issue.
I understand restaurants can’t always control everything, but basic acknowledgment and concern for guest comfort — especially with a baby — goes a long way. Unfortunately, that was missing here. I don’t recommend dining in the back room.
UPDATE:
The owner of the restaurant reached out and assured me they had a technician look into the issue the very next day.
