Welcoming services and great atmosphere. Eagle burrito with chorizo added was spectacular. Services was excellent. Staff very professional & respectful. Great all around.
I’ll admit I walked in with a few quiet concerns: that the food might be overpriced, that it might be just average, and that the space might feel cramped. I was happily wrong on all three.
From the name—translated as “River House”—to the layout, décor, bar placement, and menu, it’s clear the team put real thought into every detail. The interior sets an inviting tone right away with sandy browns and warm blues, comfortable lighting, and tasteful, backlit “window-framed” artwork that feels curated rather than generic. Even without a full house, the spacing and flow felt well planned—and what isn’t in question is the seating: sturdy, well-crafted, and genuinely comfortable.
The space itself is impressive. I counted three bars (including the outdoor deck bar), three distinct dining areas, and it looks like the riverside deck will eventually serve as a fourth area once it’s fully open for the season.
We ordered the Nacho Supreme, the Eagle Burrito, and three soft tacos with rice and beans. Portions were generous—we brought home half a burrito, a soft taco, and nearly half the nachos. Even with two bottled drinks and a fountain drink, the total was under $65, which felt more than fair for the quality and quantity.
As for the food: it was outstanding. Everything tasted intentional and well-executed, the kind of meal that makes you slow down and enjoy every bite.
For years, Pemberville residents have routinely driven to Bowling Green, Perrysburg, and beyond for a solid sit-down dinner. Casa Rio changes that—and honestly, it gives everyone else a reason to make the drive to Pemberville. I’d strongly recommend getting in for a meal or two before the winter breaks and the riverside deck becomes the main attraction—because once it does, the most common question in town will be, “How long is the wait?”
Our first time there was a long wait to be seated, but we were there the Friday of their opening week… Of course there was a long wait! Good things come to those who wait… and boy did they! We waited and they did not disappoint! They handled the large volume so well for being open only a few days- so many tables and they were packed. The restaurant is so beautiful and the atmosphere was inviting and lively! The artwork and decor is STUNNING!! The margarita I had was great! Nice and strong- flavor on point… But not so strong you can’t drink it… just like I like it! I had the quesabirria and they were VERY good!! My hubby always gets the same thing at every Mexican restaurant…. Chimis… And he also said they were very good.
Fast forward to today. They have been open a few weeks and they were still busy (always a good sign)! The wait wasn’t super long- maybe 15 min. This time I tried the Tequila Mule…. Ummm why have I never tried tequila in a mule before?? It was Soo good! I also had the Tacos Tradicionales tonight and dare I say they were the best tacos tradicionales I have had anywhere…. Seriously. It’s one of my favorite dishes to order and these ones really stood out! The salsa verde was packed with flavor … And I also asked for their hot sauce (a tomatilla sauce) and it was perfection- so much flavor with the heat.
Casa Rio is a new staple in our dining out line-up! I cannot wait to spend my summers on their patio, enjoying a raspberry margarita on the rocks…. Or my new fav, the tequila mule!!
Pemberville is home to an absolute gem!
Had to ask for chips and salsa
When the food came such small portions
Then the waiter seemed like we was his first table
Stood over us while we ate the whole thing was a weird vibe
