We love to go for lunch and sometimes go for dinner
Lunch is definitely our favorite atmosphere
The Food: Merely “Okay”
The dishes served were technically proficient. The food was fine. However, it failed to deliver any spark or flavor profile that would justify a return visit. There was nothing on the plate that created a craving or left a memorable impression. In a competitive dining landscape, “okay” food is not a differentiator; it’s a foundation that requires exceptional service to build upon.
The Service: Robotic and Detached
The true failure of this establishment rests squarely on the service. The interaction with our server was transactional, robotic, and silent. This person seemed completely disengaged and could not have cared less about the basic principles of hospitality. It was the epitome of someone simply clocking in, doing the bare minimum or rather, below the minimum and leaving with a paycheck undeserved by the effort put forth.
A dining experience has two fundamental components: the kitchen’s output and the front-of-house service. When one side is neglected, the entire foundation cracks. The complete lack of warmth, attentiveness, and engagement from the staff signifies a profound disconnect between the restaurant’s ownership and its critical front-line employees.
Verdict
The current path for Casa Del Mar tolerable food paired with a culture of indifference means that growth and long-term sustainability are dead on arrival. The owners must recognize that they are not just selling meals; they are selling an experience. Until they invest in training, accountability, and a genuine culture of hospitality, this restaurant will remain a deeply frustrating and forgettable stop.
You know it is a problem when a four year old is complaining about how chewy the chips are, but hey, free is free. My burrito was almost all bean and rice inside with very little meat. The meat was wayyyyy over salted. The shrimp on my plate were the only good thing out of all our food. And really, the shrimp were PERFECT other than being cold. My entire meal was cold.
My son always cleans his plate (normally two tacos or two tamales) and asks for more. Tonight, he didn’t even finish one. We got him one beef and two chicken. He ate most of the beef and wouldn’t eat the chicken. My son told me he wanted more food but didn’t want these. I asked him if he liked them and he said no.
That’s when I tried his taco. It was just chewing water. It was water wrapped with lettuce (water) with some cheese and was so soggy with a soaked tortilla around it. We left to come home and cook supper. Kielbasa and potatoes for the win tonight.
Again, normally our food is a five and I give a four tonight for history instead of a one. I really was surprised they didn’t ask us how it was or if we were happy. When I went to pay the bill, I didn’t say anything but the hostess asked how our food was. I responded, “Ughh, not good.” She told me my total and reached out her hand for the dinero. We will be back. If we ever experience this again, that’ll be it.
