Carpenter’s diner is a great family owned place to visit, no matter the day! They have great service, good portion sizes (their pancakes are huge!), and good pricing. My favorite things to get here are their omelets, hash-browns, and french toast.

I recently visited this small, family-run restaurant that’s a great place to hang out with friends. They serve bloody marys and beers, and the food is fantastic. I had an everything omelette, which was delicious.

Perfect. Classic diner. Family run business. Loved the food! Good value. My husband said, “best sausage gravy I’ve ever had!” My daughter had a pancake and sausage. Her quote was “thick, fluffy and absolutely massive!” I had a vegetarian omelette and it was tasty and well cooked. Raisin toast and English muffin were well buttered and delicious. The servers and cook were friendly and checked on how we were doing. Clean restrooms. Well worth the stop!

Went there for lunch and it was ok. It was State Pool, so it was busy. My mom ordered a tenderloin and wanted mayo but it was miracle whip (odd). My sausage gravy didn’t give that sausage gravy flavor. My omelet was good. Will definitely give this another shot.

Retro Lunch Counter vibe. I arrived shortly before closing (at 2:00pm) for a late lunch, but the full menu was available. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. My fish sandwich with a side of potato salad was delicious. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and hadn’t finished it. My waitress offered a to go cup, which I really appreciated.

Stopped for lunch, and had a great meal. The omelet was excellent!! Fluffy and stuffed with meat and cheese. Hash browns were made perfectly crispy as requested. The toast choices were awesome. Service was excellent. I’ll be back.

True to form small town diner/greasy spoon. The food is delicious, and the staff is very friendly. It’s clean and bright. You just eat breakfast here if you’re in Waterloo/Cedar Falls.

A Review for Carpenters: Come for the Food, Stay for the Hallway Supervision

Eating at Carpenters is like stepping into a delicious episode of Kitchen Confidential. The adventure begins in the narrow bathroom hallway, where you wait in line so close to the action you could probably yell, “Behind!” and not even get weird looks. It’s all part of the charm—and trust me, it’s absolutely worth it.

Now let’s talk food, because that’s where Carpenters really shines. The sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich? A masterpiece. It’s like breakfast gave you a hug and whispered, “You’re doing amazing, sweetie.” It’s so good, you’ll want to give it a standing ovation, but you can’t because you’re too busy licking your fingers.

And then there’s the half order of biscuits and gravy. Let me tell you, “half order” is the understatement of the century. That plate could feed a small city—or at least a hungry family reunion. It’s a glorious, gravy-covered mountain of happiness, and climbing it is the best decision you’ll make all day.

The servers? Absolute all-stars. Matt greeted me like an old friend, even though we’d just met. I think he may have psychic powers because my coffee never got below half-full. And Kelsey… Total rock star. If Carpenters had a Hall of Fame, her picture would be front and center, right next to a shrine to that sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich.

Carpenters isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Come hungry, bring a sense of humor, and be ready to supervise the kitchen while you wait. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next trip down that hallway.
