I was celebrating a special milestone in my life and decided to visit this fine dining place before leaving the area and I’m so glad I did! The ambiance has a charming, quaint vibe that immediately feels welcoming.
Morgan was wonderful, and we ended up chatting quite a bit, which made the experience even more special. When it came to cocktails, I was craving bourbon and chose The Long Goodbye – ironically fitting, as I was leaving the area after half a decade. It was beautifully balanced and hit just the right notes for the spring season.
The food was equally fantastic. The duck confit was cooked to perfection, the potatoes were absolutely delicious, and the side of greens complemented the dish so well. A truly satisfying and hearty meal.
If I had one small suggestion, it would be to enhance the cozy atmosphere even further with some candles on the tables. But overall, a wonderful experience – perfect for a special evening!
Would highly recommend!

I always enjoy eating here. We have come for Valentine’s day many times over the years and have always enjoyed getting to taste so many unique dishes. Everyone has always been nice and they are able to handle my food allergy well. The atmosphere is great too.

What. A. Gem. I’m happy to say I’ve found my favorite restaurant in the Upper Valley, in Norwich. Chef Bruce is charming, and his crew Johnny and Morgan took great care of us. Everything from the drinks to dessert are well inspired, flavorful, and mouth watering presentation. I’m so impressed. I had a Maitaki mushroom steak – just WoW. Call for you reservation and go visit!

Bruce MacLeod runs perhaps the best Fine Dining restaurant in the Upp Valley. His preparations are fresh, inventive, and classic. The dining rooms bring an air of Victorian dining rooms and are comfortable and relaxing. We come there from the Seacoast all the time. Worth the trip!

I cannot say enough about our experience at Carpenter and Main. The food was fantastic, the service was fantastic, the atmosphere is great – relaxing, attentive service but not overly so. The 4 of us enjoyed each others company without feeling rushed or interrupted. It was the feeling of being in someone’s home.
FOOD
We all ordered apps, mains and dessert. We don’t typically order dessert but when we saw it was homemade ice cream we had to try it. It did not disappoint. We all ordered different everything from each other – Bruschetta, Split pea soup (amazing), Artichokes for Apps. Scallops, risotto, duck, glass noodles with edamame and other veg for mains. The food was amazing. And I mean amazing.
Nate our server is a class act and made our overall experience one we want to repeat.
WINE ETC
The wine list was really good but I have to give props to Johnny the bartender. A talented bartender for sure and one of the reasons we’ll be back.
ATMOSPHERE
There are multiple rooms plus a bar area. The rooms are quieter but we wanted something less quiet so we asked to be moved to the bar area. We also wanted to be able to hear each other talk which was not an issue. We could enjoy the music which wasn’t too loud and hear each other comfortably.
I wish we had this restaurant in our neighborhood.

I was given the recommendation to come here and our expectations were exceeded! We were pleasantly surprised there was outdoor seating so our dog was allowed to join! Morgan provided the friendliest atmosphere and the best service. Bruce cooked such amazing meals, we finished everything! I wish I caught the bartenders name because he was exceptional as well!
Thank you for a great night out!

Ordered the vegan option (risotto) which was incredibly bland. It feels like they are trying to be fancy but just do not have the food quality to back it up. It’s the second time I’ve been disappointed by the vegetarian option there. I would chalk it up to it just being a place that’s not meant for vegetarians but they make an effort to mark things on the menu and advertise vegan/“can be made vegan” options. Also, I tried the duck confit someone else ordered and it was similarly bland. They even messed up Brussels sprouts!

Cold temps on the inside.Interior uninteresting. No knowledgeable wait staff. Our waiter was 17. Food was unseasoned. No bread for the table. Little love went into making the dishes.Almost as bad as Peyton place although the latter has charm …although poor cuisine. Never again!

Food was pretty good, service was friendly but slow. Decor was a bit eclectic, kinda grandma’s house-ish. There is a good variety of food, a good amount of seating, great parking and wines were reasonable.

Enjoyed many facets about this place. Lovely rustic decor and an amazing staff. I would bump it to a 5 star, but the food was underwhelming and definitely could use some TLC from the fine folks in the kitchen. We received the Thai lettuce wraps, and it was clear that nobody bothered to check the product before selling it. Not only was there far too much fish sauce in the pork, it was soupy and quite frankly foul. My escargots were a classic preparation, but needed salt desperately. If one does not properly season escargot, and serves them with a tomato based sauce, the predominant taste becomes the slugginess (earth) of the snails, as opposed to their natural meaty bouquet of flavors. Looked lovely on the menu, was beautiful on the table, but was disappointing in my mouth. :/
