Menu is rich and varied with Mexican meets American fare. Five stars for food because Carlos serves a hard-to-find Cafe de Olla (see photo). This is a traditional Mexican coffee brewed with spices in a pot, or “olla.” It’s a slower brew allowed to blend with aromatic spices like cinnamon you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere in boring corporate coffee chains. You’ll find rich Mexican hot chocolate “abuelita,” like your grandma made, on the menu too. My dining partner enjoyed a “build your own” bacon and egg scramble skillet (photo) and I went for the fresh cactus burrito. ¡Ay, caramba! Carlos was fresh out of cactus, so they miss a service star for featuring items on the menu that are not available. Understandable in January in Illinois. My hopes for tasting an escape from single digit temps were dashed. You can order everything from healthy options, like half a pineapple filled with greek yogurt and fresh fruit, to you-won’t-make-this-at-home indulgences like chimichangas. Sparking clean restrooms with upscale farmhouse style fixtures and furnishings. The tastefully-appointed, upscale interior used to be a French bistro, which explains decor like “la prochaine” on the wall, before Carlos opened in 2019. Servers are present, attentive, we did not feel rushed. I love that there is a cash price.

Excellent breakfast experience! Flavorful food, fun ethnic atmosphere. My wife and I had a great breakfast with a conversation were we could hear each other. Our oldest son told us about this hidden gem in downtown Crystal Lake. We normally go to the Olympic but we are glad we tried something new!! Come check it out! The Monterey Scramble is what I had and I couldn’t be happier! The cost is excellent as well! Did I say the food is exceptional? It is truly great!

First time we went there food was great, service was extremely fast. I ordered a strawberry and banana smoothie… was not a good idea, it tasted funny. We went back a couple of days ago, well, we won’t be back. Food was eh, my significant other sent his food back because it was that bad. ( The waitress took it off the bill… which was nice) I asked for my eggs to be over medium, it was served to me over easy. Oh, when we walked in… it smelled funny. Idk, check it out for yourself. ♀️

My husband and I come at least 2-3 times a month The service is always great, the wait staff are always very polite and attentive. The food is also great and good portions, which is a plus! I love the decor and the atmosphere feels homey! Hay Caramba quesadilla breakfast and the tamales breakfast are both so delicious!

I was excited to try this new restaurant in Crystal lake, was sat quickly ( not crazy busy in there and no wait at the door) got our drinks and the waiter never came back. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom either. Sat and waited 20 min. Server passes our table 2x totally ignored us. We got up flagged another server to pay for our drinks and left. Will not be back

One of my new favorite breakfasts in Crystal Lake! The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable booths. The menu had lots of great options, but wasn’t TOO long. Lots of classics to choose from, and an extensive milkshake list too! The burger was fantastic, and I really enjoyed the breakfast quesadilla. Good coffee too. Will definitely be back!

I wish we went here years ago. We dined for the first time today for lunch and it was SO delicious! The pancakes are the best I have ever had! The biscuits and gravy were very tasty! The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere makes you feel like home.

Amazing service! Very fast, the food tasted great, huge portions for very cheap! Definitely recommend. Many options and a kids menu as well. 15$ for 2 or 3 meals is a steal! Also very comfortable chairs.

Went here for Christmas morning breakfast. This was going to be our 6th Christmas breakfast. It was our last. Never again. Took 20 minutes to get a cup of decaf coffee. 40 minutes to give the waiter our order. When the food came 25 minutes later my husband got his whole breakfast. I got mine minus my toast. He said my toast would be out in a minute. 20 minutes later my husband went to the kitchen to ask about my toast. It took another 7 minutes to get my toast. Now all my food was cold. The waiter brought our bill and did not apologize. I expected part of our order to be refunded. It was not. We have never, never gotten our whole meal at the same time. But this time was the worst.

First thing I noticed when I walked in was the great atmosphere and music, immediately lifting me up on a chilly Sunday morning, the service was wonderful and the food somehow was even better. I absolutely will be coming back and bringing as many people as I can fit in my car.
