Delicious Italian food at Carbon Angela’s Kitchen! The pistachio campanelle was one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had in a very long time, incredible balance of flavors and textures. We also ordered and really enjoyed the steak tartare and skirt steak. The service was excellent; friendly, attentive, and quick. The restaurant is dog friendly with indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend!

Located in South Park so street parking only! Called for a reservation for a party of 4. On a Friday night, the restaurant was packed so you know the place is good.

Environment:
Seats available inside and a good amount of tables available on their patio covered in umbrellas. It was nice to enjoy the nice summer sunset outside. Heat lamps available for cooler nights.

Service:
Our server was very personable and accommodating. She made our experience better by helping us with recommendations and just chitchatting with her. Food took a bit to come out but it wasn’t a problem for us.

Food:
Fresh bread was served at the start with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Our party of 4 shared three main entrees and an appetizer and it was the perfect amount of food, accompanied with a bottle of wine. Three of the four dishes were circled on the menu as “Angela’s Favorite.”

-Shishito Pepper & Brussels ($14): was not circled as a favorite. It wasn’t my most favorite brussel sprout dish as I prefer it to be a little more roasted
-Pistachio Campanelle ($31): the pistachio pesto was a unique flavor, pasta was fresh
-Picanha Steak ($36): ordered medium rare and it came pre-sliced; melts in your mouth and loved that it was topped with Brie fondue
-Beef Cheek Pappardelle ($34): my most favorite dish; the pasta was super fresh and I loved the flavor

Overall:
Loved the vibe and atmosphere of this restaurant! I also really enjoyed the food and would come back to try out all the other entrees we didn’t get a chance to. I highly recommend making a reservation.

Angela’s kitchen is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. We spent date night here and had the best experience. When you walk in, you’re immersed in the Italian culture with a home vibe. Although not a large establishment, you feel right at home. We were given recommendations consistent with what we preferred and they were spot on. The food was an array of plates you can choose from or create your own, all with a variety of flavors that pleasantly surprised my palate. We haven’t been to a restaurant in a while where each bite felt like a gift. Our waitress sat with us a couple times to get to know us and share some memories of starting the restaurant and was transparent about the business. This is a special restaurant and I will definitely be coming back next time I visit San Diego. Don’t miss this gem!

I rarely come to this area due to no parking along 30th. You’ll have to snatch one along the side streets in the residential area.

It was well worth it and be sure to call in to make a reservation. They don’t have on line version.

We each ordered our own plate but had a chance to sample all. Four of our six items were their signature items, circled on the menu.

We ordered a mixture of pasta and meat dish. 3 of us had placed our order while the 4th came late but surprisingly, all of our dishes made it out at the same time! Kuddos to the chef!

-Arugula salad: refreshing

-Beef cheek pappardelle: my fav type of pasta. It’s handmade! The beef cheek was the winner in its tenderness.

-Picanha steak (the entree): this was a preset entree with your steak smothered in a mushroom topping. Although you could sub out your sides.

-From the grill choose 3: I chose picanha steak, peperonata which is a stewed vegetable dish, and bell pepper chimichurri sauce. I expected more from the sauce, it was mainly bell peppers.

-Pistachio Campenelle: very nutty and cheesy, the pancetta was really thin and almost dissolved

-Eggplant croque (4 pieces): I was getting full from eating 2!

The picanha steak is on the menu twice. Both same price. Once as a pre set entree where your steak is topped with a mushroom sauce.

If you choose picanha from the grill list then it’s just a plain steak and you pick your sauce and side.

I have to say, I enjoyed both. I ordered my plain steak medium yet it was more tender than my friend who ordered medium rare from the entree version. Both of our cuts were extremely chewy. Although more fatty, the skirt steak might have been a better choice.

We snuck in close to closing time and we’re seated 30 mins to closing. We got our food relatively quickly, staff were friendly, checked in on us regularly and left a pitcher of water on our table which I deeply appreciate.
It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a whole meal, and by that I mean I enjoyed every dish we ordered which is ridiculous. We ordered the steak tartare (flavorful, has a added something different, noticeably good), Spanish Tortilla (flavorful, complex, quite tasty), Beef Cheek Parpadelle (honestly my best dish, so flavorful, deeper, amazing) and Picanha (truffley, rich). Prices are high-ish but portion size and quality are worth it.
Easily one of the best meals I’ve had in the recent past.

Their mushroom risotto was one of the best meals I’ve had in years. Super attentive staff, cozy atmosphere, (that was even lovelier with extra holiday decorations). We ordered 2 tiramisu desserts to go and for no reason whatsoever they gave them to us for free! This was my first time dining here & 12/10 cannot recommend enough. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful experience:)

Another couple and us decided to try a restaurant which had been open a little under a year. We made reservations and gave it a try… Oh my goodness, I’m a little hesitant to post my review as we don’t want tip off this place and actually make it harder to dine here from now on. Carbon South Park is our favorite restaurant we’ve tried in all of 2024! The owner, Angela, took my reservation over the phone, greeted us upon arrival, seated us and we felt her genuine hospitality immediately after meeting her. Carbon South Park is a cute, small, intimate, and had a neighborhood family feel. You instantly feel the soul of Angela and all her service staff. We tried their eggplant croque and arancino appetizers, both of which were equally amazing. For our main course, we shared their grigliata mista (a shareable mix of many of their meats offered), which included 2 sides (street corn & the truffled smashed potatoes), and 3 sauces (truffle roasted garlic, peppercorn, bell pepper chimichurri, & mushroom). For dessert, we had a limoncello double-layered cake. We shared a bottle of schiopettino red wine. We loved everything Angela’s staff prepared. Our server Maria took excellent care of us during our entire stay. We can’t wait to return with other close friends of ours to introduce them to our newest hit dining spot. Kudos to Angela and all her staff on our newest dining fav!!!
