If you’re anywhere near the outer banks, Capt’n Franks is an absolute must visit place! This place is a local gem and hands down one of the best hot dog joints we’ve ever been to. The vibe is super fun and casual perfect for families, beachgoers or anyone craving a classic American bite!

After driving past here one too many times, I had to stop by and see what the rave was about. There was always a line whenever I was just passing by. So this time, I decided to give Capt’n Franks a try.
The Food: The food here, were just okay. Nothing to tell home about. Just quick, fast service that gets the job done if you’re craving a good hot dog. I went with the Texas Dog, Kraut Dog and the Chili Cheese Dog. All of them tasted good. However, I did order a side of hush puppies. And, those were awful. No flavor in the batter whatsoever and no amount of dipping sauce could have saved it.
The Service: Service was fast and easy. Wait in line, order at the front and they’ll either deliver to your table or call your number.
The Atmosphere: Nice beach vibes that gives a feeling like this is a hidden gem or a must-go too spot. Cool place with seating indoors and on the roof as well.
Overall, a 3/5. I understand they’re hot dogs, but there wasn’t much of a wow factor I saw. Definitely give this a place a try though! All the combinations looked and sounded good.

Perfect spot for a great lunch. The staff were friendly and helpful. Huge selection of hotdogs and other sandwiches. The door came out quickly. Recommended stop!

This place really does it right. Simple, no-frills beach eats that are reasonably priced, fast, and super satisfying.
All of the hot dogs that we tried were awesome- each with its own distinct toppings and flavors, and everything was fresh tasting. The nacho fries were awesome as well- loaded up with cheese, chili, sour cream, peppers, and pepper relish- they’re sweet spicy creamy cheesy deliciousness in each bite. Lastly, the hush puppies were delicious! Simple southern goodness in every bite.
It’s worth noting that this place has a solid selection of craft beer that pairs well with the dogs!

OBX staple. This place is so freakin fast and good! They know how to make one heck of a hot dog! facilities are clean, atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are very attentive and nice. Food was warm and delicious. Once you come here, it will be a stop every time you cruise through. The tickets slide down once ordered and it’s neat to experience.

Serving all beef hot dogs since 1975. They have a huge menu of custom hot dogs, extra large hot dogs, steak and cheese sub, chicken sandwich, fish sandwich, lots of sides and a kids menu. Portions are large, the food is good and the prices are affordable. Plenty of picnic tables outside. Lots of cool old signs. Really fun vibe.

This place is all I wanted in a vacation lunch stop. Two dozen types of hot dogs with wonderfully designed toppings, with special callout for the mac-and-cheese dog and the Carolina Dog slathered with slaw, BBQ sauce and baked beans. And as long as you’re living on the defibrillator’s edge, make sure to grab one of the half-dozen smothered fries. Pro tip: This is a four- minute drive from the Wright Brothers Memorial, where you will be able to walk off some (though probably not all) of the calories.
