We were pleasantly surprised trying this new place out. I was a little nervous with the reviews but we had a great experience. Sheila, our waitress was AWESOME! The rest of the staff were amazing too! Really friendly! The food portions were a really good size. None of us finished our plates! The desserts were delicious!!!

Just opened up this week and out of cocktail sauce by Thursday. Owner/manager seemed genuinely concerned. The wait staff did a bang up job.

It was our first time we were a little skeptical because we are Mayflower fans. But the food was delicious. Customer service was good. I had catfish. The serving size was so large I took half of it home. The price was very reasonable. Give them a try and go see for yourself. It was a good dinning experience for us.

The food was ok but we got a flounder platter, trout platter. And an appetizer shrimp which all came up to 45 dollars. Well the plates were so small it was unbelievable. This is definitely not Mayflower they use to fill your box to the brim with food which would be worth almost 50 dollars

Took a while for the server to get to our table and only saw her when she brought food. Ordered shrimp scampi pasta, the shrimp was breaded. Breading was soggy and shrimp were raw/clear in the middle. Pasta had no scampi sauce, just watery noodles. My boyfriend ordered the broiled flounder and somehow the skin was soggy and wet, but the fish was dry. Atmosphere was a blast from the past and it was clean. Definitely not worth the trip or the money to eat here. Another disappointing restaurant in Rocky Mount.

We saw an employee cough in her hand and another digging in her head. Employees were chatty & playful. Only one nice person at the front. The one who took our order didn’t bother to speak. Based on the reviews from others who have spoken with the manager/owner, it will have the same fate as “Mayflower” if not improved upon. Reviews are an opportunity to get better and stay open to make money if taken seriously.

Not much curb appeal but better atmosphere once you get inside. The service was great, as was the food. The broiled seafood platter was delicious and you get a healthy helping of food. Would eat here again.

Captain J’s Seafood is hands down my go-to spot for fresh fish and a great meal! I had the fried flounder platter and it was absolutely delicious—crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. You can truly taste the freshness in everything they serve. From the house-made coleslaw to the tangy tartar sauce, every detail was spot on. But my absolute favorite? The ring-sized hush puppies—WOW! Incredible flavor and unlike anything I’ve had elsewhere.
The atmosphere is beautiful with pleasant decor, creating a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. The staff were super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, which made everything even better. We’ll definitely be back again soon!

Ordered take out the other weekend and it was not the greatest experience (or food). The kitchen staff was playing around; we was privy to an inside conversation (or incident) that involved the owner and one of the employees. They initially brought us the wrong order then had to go back to find our correct meal.
I ordered the shrimp scampi and the shrimp was under cooked and there was no seasoning on the dish, at all. This is definitely a place, I won’t return to.
Not to mention; today, I had a not so pleasant phone call with John Vafias (the owner). He was EXTREMELY rude, unprofessional and unpolished. He ended the call by hanging up on me.
I do not recommend. If I could give 0 stars based off the conversation alone, I would.
