Awesome place for BBQ!!
Got the half rack of ribs and sliced brisket – tender, smoky, saucy, and delicious!
The sides were equally good, especially the BBQ fries and fried okra.
The portions were very generous – enough for me and my wife to eat 2 meals each.
It was clean, and our server, Connie, was helpful and delightful!

My mother in law, husband, and I ate at Captains Jack’s Smokehouse. We had a lovely server, Ashley, who was very helpful and kind through out our dinner. We had the pretzel and pork grinds with pimento cheese for an appetizer. I had the half slab of ribs with Mac and cheese and fried okra. The honey bourbon sauce was delicious on the ribs. The toast could have been toasted more with butter and I wasn’t to crazy about the Mac and cheese. The meat and okra was good though! They had the pulled pork plate with baked beans and fries. My husband thought everything was just okay but my mother in law loved it. For dessert we had a the cookie ice cream sandwich which is really big and sweet. Overall it was reasonably priced, the food was good, staff was friendly, and clean location! Will be going back.

May 8 2020 – I finally had some down time and got to try this place. It was really good. That bbq sauce was so good. I was not impressed with the green beans only because they had garlic and I am not a garlic clove can a girl. I did eat them after picking out the garlic cloves.. I will only be here for a couple more days and I think that on Saturday night I will go back.

It was amazing. The server was amazing. Very tentative. We tried not to run her, but it seem we were to me. The pork belly rinds arrived at our table still popping. The cheesecake was heavenly. The pecan pie was great. We chose to sit inside, but there was the option of sitting outside. I will definitely go back with my boyfriend.

Server was friendly, took our orders in a timely manner. Food took a while she said there was 6 tickets ahead of us but the appetizers didn’t come out for quite some time either. I only ordered the fried pickles because the menu says “fried pickle spears”. Not many restaurants actually serve the spears so I was very excited. They were chips and I was very upset. The pulled pork was okay but there was a large piece of fat taking up most of the sandwich.

Went for a Sunday drive looking for a good Barbecue place to eat and had no luck (out of biz/closed on Sunday/too small/no parking, etc.) and we were heading back down south, when we barely saw out of the corner of our eyes as we were getting closer to a bridge a sign that said CAPTAIN JACK’s SMOKEHOUSE!! Decided to make a U-Turn and hoped it was open. There were a few cars; so it wasn’t crowded, which made us think “It doesn’t matter what the food is like we are starving!”
First thing I noticed on the building was that it was “Established In 2019”. I took that as a good sign that if it opened in 2019 and survived the pandemic lockdowns that it probably isn’t “that bad”. Thankfully, it Wasn’t! We walked in and were greeted by a pleasant young man. We were seated promptly in a booth facing the patio with a relaxing view. Our Super Sweet Smiling Server Jazmine greeted us with her Southern Charm and shared some history of the restaurant and that she has been there since it opened and we could tell she knew her menu well enough to make our mouths water when describing the different choices. We were surprised how quickly the drinks, appetizers and main meal were delivered to our table, as more and more people arrived. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! As hungry as we were @2:35pm (after having nothing to eat up until that point), we couldn’t believe we both had to take home leftovers! Jazmin was very attentive, and anticipated our needs. The “Frickles” were a tasty start for sure. We ended the meal by purchasing all 4 desserts on the menu (even though Jazmine shared the specials they had in the display case of Red Velvet and a Raspberry Cheesecake I think) and we ended up taking them home because we were stuffed. My husband had 3 of them and said “they were ALL GOOD!” He saved Nana’s Banana pudding for me to try. ☺️ It was a great all around experience. I only had one thing that I thought took away from a nearly perfect experience and that would be the bathroom. I’m a Nurse and like a clean bathroom, and it wasn’t that the bathroom was dirty, it was fine, but trying to get to the toilet in the first 2 stalls was like being in a Ninja Warrior challenge haha because of the limited space. They did have a additional stall that was much larger but it was occupied at the time. I’m thinking that if they extended the front of the doors out more that would resolve the issue. Other than that, we have already invited another couple to go on a road trip back up there for the day to enjoy a meal at CAPTAIN JACK’s SMOKEHOUSE!! (And no we never met Jazmine (and I apologize for any misspelling ) KUDOS TO THE CHEF AND STAFF‼️
UPDATE: Saturday 5/4/24- we decided to try this place again showed up at 4:19. There was no waiting. We sat right down and Cassie our server got our drink order and brought it out right away. By 4:33we had our fried pickles appetizer. We ordered the same thing but switched out onion rings for the french fries and everything was delicious. Unfortunately, the bathroom situation has not improved much in the men’s bathroom and one of the urinals was out of order, but the woman’s bathroom improved dramatically. The food and atmosphere definitely make up for it!

Fun atmosphere. Beware of the booths as they are very tight. Steamed Broccoli is very delicious! Unfortunately the meats are just so, lacking flavor. The beef brisket was dry. Smokey chicken was juicy but lacked any flavor beyond a hint of flavor or spice. $2 margaritas were a high point – served in a plastic cup with a salt ring – with any alcohol at all it’s a good deal.
Overall it’s hard to recommend with the below average meats and uncomfortable seating.

Connie was horrible and incompetent as her role as the manager on duty Labor Day weekend. The absolute worst experience I have ever encountered. My family and I had thought we would be able to enjoy a meal at Captain Jack’s Smokehouse. There was no wait for our party of seven adults and three kids however the 90 minute wait for the meal we never got was ridiculous. These people just could not get it together. Do not order a classic margarita, salad bar was out of items, unsanitary with the ice machine and
we were told 20 minutes after placing our orders they ran out of ribeyes. The manager Connie was the ABSOLUTE WORST. No fake positive review after mine can change my mind. It only reinforces my honest review.

Wonderful BBQ spot. Huge portions and delicious food. Theyve got both a Carolina style and a Kansas City style sauce that goes perfect with thier smoked meats. Had a Captain’s platter of 4 meats and was not disappointed one bit. Pulled pork, Brisket, Chicken, and ribs, coupled with baked beans, fries, mac and okra.

We used them for our wedding rehearsal dinner and everything was amazing! Sandi went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. All of our guests complimented on how great the food tasted. They went out of their way to add decor and make the area look great. The pastry chef made us dessert as a little extra gift. The dessert was beyond delicious. I can’t recommend them enough and could go on and on with good things about them. If you are planning an event or need catering they are your people. They appreciate the locals and the small town feel and is a great addition to Fernandina Beach!
