Place is still legendary. While the good ole captain has passed his son Nick has def kept the place going. Just got my first captain Gus cheesesteak in 25 years!!! Still the same amazing food.

I Went here probably over 20 years ago with my Pop Pop. Met Captain Gus himself and he was entertaining us with Magic Tricks if I remember correctly. I went again today and met the cook named Don. I hope I remembered his name correctly because I had a great conversation with him. The quality and taste of the food is an added bonus to the great experiences that I have had here.

I just had a cheesesteak here for the first time. It exceeded my expectations! So good! I gave it 5 stars for atmosphere…not because it is grand, but it’s exactly what you want a cheesesteak place to be like. Got sandwich two weeks ago. Roll was very soggy, meat was basically tasteless. used to stop there on way home on y motorcycle, probably 25 years ago and the sandwiches were really good. Not my experience now sadly.

First, the staff is incredibly friendly and nice. I had to go in and pay for seven different orders separately and they didn’t even bat an eye. The food was also ready in the exact time they said it would be.
The cheesesteak is one of the best I’ve had in Lancaster, and I’m not even a marinara on a cheesesteak kind of guy. The meat was super flavorful and it had plenty of cheese. So many places really lack in the cheese department, but not Gus’s.
The fries were a bit soggy, but let’s face it, I wasn’t there for the fries. Overall, this place is better than half the “talked about” places in Philly.

Captain Gus’s is a breath of fresh air in a fast casual dining scene stuffed to the brim with unremarkable chain restaurants. My cheesesteak was easily the best I’ve had since moving to Lancaster 10 years ago and the staff was friendly and nice. Much like Route 66 Restaurant on the other side of town, the rundown interior may deter the uninitiated but it’s their loss.

I have been going to this place for many years and now that I have moved away, I find myself craving their cheesesteaks even more!
Nick and his staff are always friendly and attentive to their diverse clientele. It doesn’t matter who you are, when you come into this place, they make sure you are taken care of ASAP. Sometimes you will have to wait in line due to their popularity, but rest assured, it will be well worth the wait!
There is a reason why they have been in business for so long and it is simply good fresh food that is cooked to order – None of that prepared ahead of time crap!
And yes, I will be going back every chance I get!
