At our Frankfort, KY location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Went here with my wife and 6 others after church on Sunday, January 18, 2026 around 1pm. Very clean restaurant and nice and courteous staff. For the most part, food was prepared with little wait time and was good. However, six of us that ordered fried fish, some of the fish was raw and way under cooked inside the breading. When we showed the gentleman behind the counter, he was nice and apologetic and promptly provided fish that was properly cooked to all of us. I love eating at Captain D’s and I truly hate giving only two star rating. Depending on the response or reply of this review from management, I will edit this review.

I was here on a Saturday, apparently, during their slowest time. Still, my food was hot, fresh, and not even remotely overly greasy. My fish was fried to golden perfection. As an added bonus, the staff was having fun, which was nice to see.
I was pleasantly surprised with how good the fish sandwich was. Even though I haven’t eaten here in years, I will likely come back whenever I’m craving fish.

One thing about Captain D’s the food is always fresh and cooked to order. Plus they offer military discount, but all captains are not created equal. The one in Frankfurt Kentucky on Highway 127 is really good. Now offering salmon and other grilled fish options.

The food here is horrible the fish is double fried to the point it dark brown. Grease saturated like a sponge. Long John Silvers don’t have that much grease dripping out of fish. This entire plate went in trash. The food is garbage.

This store has the sweetest, nicest staff. They have excellent customer service. Tonight i ordered country fried which was OK. I think maybe the recipe has changed and that’s ok. I went back through and ordered a dessert. It tasted old . I’m so sorry to complain but the Lime Key pie was not fresh at all. The store had already closed so I couldn’t bring it back but it was so disappointing.

This has to be one of the worst Captain D’s I’ve ever visited. My coworker and I orders were poorly prepared as if it was just thrown together.
We ask for a swap and was still dissatisfied. The food was so bad I wouldn’t feed it to a homeless person.
We truly regretted not asking for a full refund. I also want to mention after I swapped out my dinner. They still got the order wrong. The only thing decent about this experience was leaving.

They got really good tartar sauce and huge fish sticks. Kinda odd that the fish is like 1 inch x 3/4 inch x 6 inches. But… it’s good and i guess they got other stuff .

As fast food restaurants go, Captain D’s on hwy 127 south in Frankfort is my favorite. The staff is super friendly and quick to resolve any problem. Food is fresh and tasty. Give them a try!
