At our Mt Juliet, TN location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

When I arrived at the store, it was noticeably empty. There wasn’t a single other customer inside. The employees weren’t particularly friendly or rude—they simply lacked any expression and barely spoke. The restaurant itself had an old-fashioned feel to it, but it was well-maintained and clean, which was a plus.
I placed my order online through their app, which I found easy to use. Downloading the app and placing the order was a smooth process. I had only opted for pickup, but when I got to the store, I noticed a strong cigarette smell near the restroom, which was quite unpleasant.
Once I got home and was ready to eat, I was shocked to find that the bottom of both food boxes had completely melted due to the heat from the fish. The plastic had created holes in the bottom, which immediately raised concerns about health risks. I couldn’t imagine feeding my children food that had been exposed to melted plastic and potential toxins. This was extremely frustrating and something I had never encountered before.
I called the restaurant to report the issue and was asked to return to the store to get a replacement. This was especially inconvenient since my kids had just finished their sports practice and were starving, but I had no choice but to go back. What annoyed me further was that they insisted I bring the melted boxes back with me. Did they not believe my complaint? I complied, and when I arrived, an employee took the damaged boxes to the kitchen. Another staff member then handed me a fresh batch of food, without so much as an apology. Their expressions remained blank, and their lack of customer service was disappointing.
As for the food itself, it was just average. The Fish Fry had an unusually large amount of brown seasoning powder on the batter, which made me wonder if the frying oil hadn’t been changed frequently. However, the fish itself seemed fresh and was edible. The coleslaw turned out to be the best part of the meal—it was incredibly fresh with no odd smell, and even my kids, who usually dislike vegetables, enjoyed it. The French fries were also decent—not too salty and cooked well.
After this experience, I couldn’t help but wonder why the restaurant was so empty despite its convenient location near the highway and its ample parking space. It seems that other customers might have also had their reasons for staying away. I was excited to revisit this place after a decade, but unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.
Food was fresh and hot! The young man working the counter stayed busy restocking items and cleaning tables as well so good on him nice work ethic.
I placed my order and he took my payment, never offering a receipt. After waiting 25 minutes, and 3 vehicles behind me, leaving because they were tired of waiting, I finally got my food. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that there wasn’t any there.
Needless to say, the food was cold and the chicken was old and dried out. The fish was watery, the green beans were too salty and so were the fries.
Needless to say, I wasted almost $30.00 dollars and couldn’t even eat what was paid for and the absolute worst service ever had.
We will NEVER return.
