At our Decatur, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

First of all, I would like to say that I have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. I have a culinary degree and I know food and I know both front an back of the house very well. When I first moved here to Decatur about a year ago I was very happy that there was a Captain D’s in my area. I went inside because I had a little time to spare. My first reaction was the floor was absolutely disgusting and there were three employees sitting down in the customer area playing on their phones while the manager was on duty!!my first impression as being a restaurant manager phones are not allowed only for emergencies. I would’ve fired all of them. I went to the counter and ordered and I was really really wanting some Captain D’s fish. I’m from the Gulf Coast area and we do fish! The girl on the counter seemed uninterested in taking my order because she was playing around with a cook in the back. So I waited and placed my order. She was very loud and very unprofessional but again I got my order and sat down to eat. The broccoli was not steamed. It was more like raw. The slaw tasted like it had been sitting a couple of days and I don’t know if they were not cleaning their fryers properly, but the fish was not fresh. It also seemed like it had been sitting so I thought to myself I’m not going back. I was so so disappointed so about 845 Friday evening in January I decided to try one more time because I really really love Captain D’s I always have. I went to the drive-through window instead I placed my order. The lady was very nice well spoken and then told me to pull up to the window. I pulled up to the window and she greeted me with professionalism and kindness. She gave me my order and I told her thank you so much. I went home to eat it and it was totally different. The food was amazing. You could tell that the oil had been changed in the fryers my broccoli was cooked perfectly not underdone or overdone just right the coleslaw seemed very fresh. The fish seemed very freshly cooked. I am very critical and I’m sure because of my background so I decided to go back and I go inside to order the young lady that took my order in the drive-through a few weeks ago took my order from the front. She’s got dark hair. She looks Italian and again she was super super professional, so I decide to sit down in the seating area to eat my food.. Im watching this woman run around the store moving like two or three people doing drive-through working the front counter and helping in the back,then making sure the drinks were either filled or cleaning at the area. These are the kind of people that you want to keep in your back pocket. I was so impressed with her. I asked her name., Emily she said so I applauded her and told her she was doing an amazing job and I hope the company is aware of how good of a job that she was doing. And I could see that she was a very hard worker and she then had told me that her family has been in the restaurant business for a very long time and we’re chefs. I told her that I could tell I felt like this needed to be told because I remember being her age and working hard like she did. It reminded me of a very younger me. I hope she is there the next time I come in because the food was amazing and the service was amazing. I even bought some food to take home..

I love the white fish meal but nobody knows how to cook rice.. every time I get it I ask if they can make sure the rice is fully cooked… Well it was like trying to chew on brass pellets! Their food is too expensive these days for the awful quality of food that it’s been over the last few years. Sometimes the cashiers are rude and just want to rush me through my order even though it takes forever for them to get the food out to the customers. It’s also seems like the fish is much smaller in size now.. I’m surprised this place hasn’t closed down yet.

Ordered Door Dash from here tonight. Fries were completely missing from tge order and found the chicken under cooked when bit into it. Fish and hush puppies were still OK. Did call and let them know.

Got the catfish plate tonight and it just did not taste good. My corn on the cob tasted like it had been there overheated for days. Could not even eat it. Disappointed forthe price I paid. The fish were little.

Haven’t had this type of fast food in years!! It was so fresh and hot when received, and we didn’t have to pull forward. Like seriously fast! I Will be visiting everytime I come to visit my daughter, who just moved to the area.

We came and placed an order to dine in, but after going to sit at a table noticed that the interior was not very clean. We saw that their health rating was a 91, so we were going to just ignore the state of the dining room and wipe down a booth for ourselves, but when we got up to get drinks we saw that there was mold on the ice dispenser. Mold being in our drinks was obviously something that we couldn’t ignore, so we decided to ask for a refund on the cups. The guy at the counter was perfectly nice and tried to accommodate, but he needed to ask for help from someone before he could do a refund. He walked into the back and we could hear his conversation with a woman who was arguing that there isn’t any mold on the ice and that we shouldn’t get a refund. While that was happening, we watched as another woman who worked there came in and set her cigarette on the counter. When the man we’d been speaking to came back he told us that we’d just have to wait for the manager to return and then we could get our refund. By this point we no longer wanted to eat here, so we decided that we’d just like to ask for a full refund and leave. Fortunately the manager came in soon after, and she was very nice and let us have a full refund without any trouble. Overall I can’t say I recommend coming here at all, but I’m grateful for the manager and the nice guy at the counter

The food was not all that and we ordered on line and what we ordered wasnt available was upset because didn’t know until we got there an had to get something else..they could have let us known online that what we wanted was not available oh and they could have change the grease
