At our Birmingham, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Customer service is absolutely atrocious. The cashier was constantly cutting me off asking “Is that it, is that it”. I told her NO and asked for free 5 piece shrimp like the sign says since she was in such a rush. She got mad and yelled “I know how it works” the food takes forever just like every Captain D’s. At least it is cooked fresh.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Captain D’s, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. From the moment I walked in, I was met with a warm and inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home.
The highlight of my visit was the incredible lady behind the counter. She was so kind and helpful, going above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. She patiently explained the menu, offered great recommendations, and even checked in to see if everything was to my liking. Her friendliness and genuine care made a huge impression on me—it’s rare to find customer service this good!
As for the food, it was absolutely fantastic, as always. The golden, crispy fish was cooked to perfection, the hush puppies were fluffy and flavorful, and the coleslaw was the perfect balance of tangy and sweet. Every bite was fresh, hot, and delicious. Captain D’s consistently delivers quality meals, and it’s clear they take pride in every dish.
I highly recommend Captain D’s to anyone who hasn’t tried it yet. Whether you’re a fan of seafood or just looking for a great meal served by wonderful people, this is the place to go. I can’t wait to return for another great dining experience.

As shown in the picture, the hot food placed in these containers tends to melt the surface of the plastic. You can imagine the potential impact this has on the food itself, and I leave the judgment to you. When hot food comes into direct contact with the plastic and causes it to melt and stick to the food, what health issues could this potentially create for us? I believe it would be much better if a protective liner were placed at the bottom of these containers to prevent this issue and avoid the mixing of plastic material with the food.
On a separate note, the staff at this restaurant are respectful and courteous, but I believe the customer service experience could be improved further. Speaking to customers in a gentler tone and listening to their orders more patiently would make a significant difference. This would be especially helpful for customers who are elderly or not fluent in English. Thank you for your attention to these suggestions.

Drive thru lady started yelling at me about how much tartar sauce I wanted lol. Ordered a fish meal, was about to order a second fish meal, before I could she said “how much sauce u want”
I said, I’m gonna need like 10 sauces (their sauces are VERY small)
She yelled “nu uh ain’t no way u finna get 10 sauces for 2 pieces of fish, nuh uh hell nah”

Ordered the fisherman platter only got one piece of fish was suppose to have 2. And I don’t know what this is but definitely doesn’t go in a fisherman platter and the coleslaw tastes rotten or something. First time eating at a Captain Ds and will definitely be the last.

Absolutely one of the worst customer service experience. I’m really surprise this location is still open. With as many food choices and places to eat, you would think they would be vying to serve you, but instead, all this location does, is anticipate on you driving off. To date just about every time I and or my family has eaten here, it has been old, reheated, or wrong. Tip: don’t plan to eat here within 30-45 minutes till close, because they will make you wait and chances are your food will be old.

Today Tuesday the 24th of June at 3:56 I pulled off because the cashier was very rude. I requested my food and she told me very abruptly my total and to pull around. I wasn’t done ordering. I politely asked to order something else and she responded rudely by saying YEAH, GO HEAD. Not go ahead BTW. I didn’t want to deal with the rudeness so I left. She has such a bad attitude that no one would make an effort to come back for the service.
