At our Adel, GA location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

I stopped by Captain D’s in Adel, Georgia on my way home from a six-hour drive from Florida to Atlanta. I ordered the Deluxe Seafood Platter and specifically asked for Southern-Style Fish, not the battered dip. I made sure to tell the cashier that I didn’t want the thick batter — just the southern-style coating.

Unfortunately, that’s not what I received. My fish came out covered in a thick layer of batter and southern-style coating, which made it heavy and unappetizing. My stuffed crab was also undercooked.

The staff were friendly, but it seemed like there was a lack of attention and care in how the food was prepared. Because I was traveling, I didn’t have time to go back, and honestly, once food comes out that wrong, I don’t like sending it back.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience after a long trip. Sadly, I’ll make sure to skip this Captain D’s location in the future.

Stopped at drive thru off the interstate – wished I hadn’t. It was hard to get to as you had to drive through several parking lots off the interstate to reach it – very odd. Then, it took almost an hour of sitting in line to get my food. The lady apologized for the delay and was nice enough, but no explanation as to why. The worst part was the fish sandwiches we ordered were not good at all – more grease than usual and tasted like the grease it was cooked in was old. The tea also didn’t taste very good as in the water used may not be filtered well. I didnt even eat the fries – not hot and seemed laden with grease. I love Captain Ds when its done right. Everything about this visit was wrong, sadly. I will never stop at this particular restaurant again – period.

I’m surprised this place is still open. We walked in at 3:00 and there’s 1 table with people. Both employees at the front were just standing around. Why? The tables were all nasty. The drink station was so messy, couldn’t set our drinks down to put the lid on them. The tea was empty. The bathrooms were disgusting and smelled sickening.

We ordered the Captains seafood platter. The food came up and only had catfish. I asked, “Where’s the rest of it?” He looked at me like I had 2 heads and said, “It’s the captains platter.” I said, “Yes, I know. Is there more than one captains platter, because I only see 1 on the menu.” He walked to the window to ask the cook, who responded with, “I’ve never made one of those, what’s on it?” I thought, “You never made the captains platter before, so instead of asking someone whats on it you just figured you’d throw 2 pieces of fish on the plate and that’d be it.”

One of the workers decided to come get the trash can to dump. Finally, doing something productive… but then they didnt bring the trash can back for several minutes. When one finally brought it back, he rolled that nasty thing right up to another table with a group of women and asked them to throw their trash away. I cringed! Why? Go put that nasty thing in the bin and then go get their trash for them! Gross.

Another couple still didn’t have their food and it had been 30 mins. We assume the boat sank on it’s journey to pick up their seafood for their meals. They went up to the counter as we were leaving to ask about it. The cook in the back yelled, “It’s just waiting on the fish to cook!” Ha! Meanwhile multiple cars came through drive thru and they all got their food, even the person that came in after them got his food before them.

I may be going out on a limb here, but I think there’s some room for improvement here.

They will not honer the meal deals advertised all over the building. They offer a discount for the inconvenience saying they cant control how it rings up. The discount was 1.30 off so I still ended up paying more for my meal then its advertised for on the wall as you walk in. The meal is 8 piece shrimp and 2 fish i paid over 13 when its advertised for 10.99. This is false advertising to not honer the deal thats clearly advertised to attract customers.

Took 45 minutes to get three plates .. the two that were there working were trying their best . Just very understaffed. The ones there were pleasant so I can’t really say anything bad about the ones that did show up to work.

People who were there before us didn’t get their food until after us and people who arrived after us got their food before us! We waited over 20 minutes for our food!!!
My husband ordered fish and shrimp, several of the shrimp were overcooked and several were under cooked! Hush puppies looked over cooked. I ordered a loaded baked potato without bacon and asked if they could replace the bacon with broccoli, “I will get in trouble if I do that!!”
My potato was half raw with a slice of cheese, no butter and no sour cream like the picture!!! I will take it home and cook it myself, Wendy’s potatoes are very good and Wis serves them with broccoli if you would like!!
Not a place I will waste my time or money on!!!

Waited over half an hour and finally had to get a refund. Place wasn’t that busy . Only maybe 10 people waiting over 45 min before us. There were only 3 staff members. One had to turn away people starting at 8:15 by locking the doors…and they don’t close till 10. Wasn’t sure what was happening at the time so it made us super uncomfortable being locked in. Statement was made that “this wouldn’t be happening if the Manager was there.” No manager in sight. One lady (truckdriver) couldn’t get a refund because she paid cash. Felt bad because a guy was sitting there with his bags of food that they apparently got wrong…so his food wasn’t going to be hot when he ate it. I DON’T recommend this location. I recommend that they find a Manager that is able to be present and definitely hire a new cook!! Like right away. More training for front staff, as they couldn’t figure out refunds. May as well close the doors . Horrible experience….doesn’t deserve the star I gave.

Employees playing around, fussing, cussing and carrying on with no concern for the customers. Wait time was ridiculous and uncalled for considering the amount of time the employees spent playing around. Tables were not clean and the guy cooking kept sling his braids back and forth over his head while preparing the customer’s food. Several customer’s orders was wrong and the staff member was rude when approached by the customer about the mistake. If there was a manager in the mix of all the playing around he or she did not stand out from the rest because they were all playing and being very unprofessional.

I Had a horrible experience with manager Kiley who messed up my order, did not apologize, had an attitude, was argumentative with me used profanity, and accused me of lying about my order. Waited an extra 15 minutes just for macaroni which I was not even advised I had to wait. When asked who above her I could talk to she said no one. Handed me food with no bag. She did not even attempt to remedy my issue even though she admitted to missing up my order nor did she provide any type of compensation for my inconvenience. I have never been to a captain d’s where a manager has been so rude, unprofessional, and just down right nasty to a paying customer after spending almost $50 I was disgusted and disappointed at this so called managers behavior and hostility towards me after leaving off items from my order. I need someone to follow up with me asap and answer for the treatment that I have been given. Not to mention I waited longer as she also forgot to bring my food back out to me. This was just so unacceptable and uncalled for. I do not know if I spelled her name correctly but I do that she is the daughter of the other manager that left right before she came in. This incident happened on 9-20-2024 at 5:23pm I spent an hour dealing with this situation and my food was cold by the time I got the “macaroni”. Which turned out to be just a cup full of cheese and like 10 noodles and not eatable. Just sad.
