At our Newberry, SC location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Went on a Sunday after church..I’ve been here before a couple years ago but forgot about leaving a review. After moving back to SC, all I could think about was going back to Captain D’s.
Food – Got the add-on apps as I’m not big into seafood like catfish and whatnot..but I love my clam strips and shrimp. Got the butterfly shrimp and clam strips for 5.99 and then the Captain D’s appetizer special for 6.99 that comes with shrimp, popcorn shrimp and clam strips. Right away. Noticed they both came in same size box so I think you may get less clam strips when they give you the popcorn shrimp.
I brought it back to Joanna so some stayed warm, others went cold..no fault of theirs, they made it fresh.
Service – kid behind the counter was friendly, attentive and asked if I needed sauces and gave a few extra.
I got it to go..so can’t really speak on the restaurant as others have..but I’ll be going back.

I’m giving four stars. Only because the rice was hard. The employees were friendly and the restaurant was clean, very clean! And the food was good. Outside was nice and neat.

Captain D’s is our favorite fast food destination when in an area where they do business. The food always tastes fresh and served at the proper temperature. Service at this particular Captain D’s was excellent…the right balance of professional and friendly.

I can’t even give this place one star. It was 4pm on 10/26/25. There was ONE car in the drive thru in front of us. They ordered. We waited 6 minutes or more and NO ONE acknowledged us sitting in the drive thru. I even said “hello”. I pulled around to leave, YOUR STAFF was proped up on the drive thru cash register, and 3 more employees were milling around the front counter. If the drive thru was out of order, maybe place a sign. Or don’t take the person’s order in front of me. We will NEVER come back and won’t recommend this place to anyone. Do better.

I don’t think I got the value for my money when it come to the meal. The chicken and fries were good, the hush puppies gave more of an onion ring taste than anything. The Mac and cheese was a little bland. And I didn’t like the fact that drinks don’t come with the meal.
Other than that, I didn’t like having to get pulled up for the food. I understand having to wait a minute or two for something but 5 minutes or more becomes annoying.
It has been a while since I ate here and it’ll be a while before I eat there again.

Had dinner with mother. I ordered a 4pc fish w/ Broccoli and Okra. $1 extra for Okra, still enjoyed. No forks, so used a spoon. Broccoli,steamed and lacked flavor. Okra, fried alittle too much but not burnt. 4 fish was prefect. Crisp beer batter with a flakey fish. Delicious. Kind wish the fish was full size fillers though. Looked like the fish was trimmed to Eel shaped fillers. Trying to get more dollar per fish. RTC. Respect The Costumer.

January 27th,2026. The cook definitely didn’t. Give me what came with my sampler. Unfortunately going back could have given me worst service. Was shorted on shrimp,and the chicken.

Bad customer service. Went through drive thru worker and car in front was talking the whole time. When that person leave got me pull up and waiting for food for long time. Hope food taste good. Take my 5 stars away, because customer service was horrible and food didn’t taste good. The fish was hard. Lugoff is way better and customer service good. Update: I usually don’t give anyone a chance, but I gave this location another chance but it was the same old thing. Bad customer service and waited for food for a long time. Then had hair in my fish. I’m not the type of person who like confrontation but I didn’t let them know because I know how ghetto some these workers get. I know that I don’t have black hair, my hair brown. Also, the food was cold. Lugoff captain D’s would never.
