The crab fingers were DELICIOUS!! They’re basically the claw meat that have been shelled for you, then fried or broiled- we had them broiled. My son and I shared an order of crab fingers, calamari, broiled scallops, and a catfish po’boy.

Everything was tasty- except the scallops, which I was most excited for. When they were served, the flavor was wonderful, but they were over cooked- very chewy. They did a remake on them, and while they were cooked a bit better, the flavor was lacking. Im used to tender, fall apart, buttery textured scallops.

We finished off our meal with a slice of Key Lime Pie- so yourself a favor, get the pie…

Ordered the fried catfish, and the portion size was generous for the price. The catfish was crispy and well-cooked, but could have used more flavorful seasoning to really stand out. Overall, the meal was satisfying and affordable. Would definitely return to try other menu items and see how they compare.

I was craving Cajun food and found this place, wish i hadn’t really. I’m pretty sure this cook has never been to Louisiana in his life. The gumbo tasted like it had bouillon in it, was both watery and slimy because it was practically okra soup. I’ve only left a bowl of gumbo unfinished once before and that was because it was full of tomatoes.
The crawfish etouffee was somehow gritty and they tried to hide the lack of flavor with cayenne.
Lastly, the hush puppies were gummy balls of grease. I’m pretty sure this is the ONLY time I’ve ever left hush puppies uneaten. The gummy interior even separated from the outside shell. Just gross.

Mikey was so great! Best crawfish in town for the best price here! Get them spicy . I will say I’ve been to some of the other locations in houston and really wish this spot had a frozen drink option or something other than beer and wine like those locations. Still one of my favorite spots for seafood in the neighborhood though.

We came in, and it seemed a little quiet for a Friday night. We were seated quickly. A waitress took our order right away, great. Then another “waitress” came over; she looked a mess and had no idea what was going on. We moved her along. We did get our order pretty quickly; 2 beers and a dzn oysters on the half shell. Unfortunately, we ate several oysters before we realized… PICS BELOW…..Also, the oysters were overpriced, compared to much better restaurants. We just asked for our check and left. We went to a “fast food” place to get our fried fish and had a great meal. I can’t believe anyone would eat here more than once. We be back.

My sister, Aunt Shilpa, and I had such a fantastic time at Captain Benny’s in Houston! The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. My nieces were thrilled with the menu and couldn’t stop smiling the whole time. The atmosphere was welcoming and fun, making it a perfect spot for a family outing. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!

Captain Benny’s is a longtime restaurant in Central Austin serving seafood next to the Marriott. They have all the standard seafood fair, nothing fancy, but very tasty. There’s outdoor seating in addition to inside seating, and the bar is a big horseshoe shaped thing that’s kind of fun.

First time visitor and pleased. Waitress was attentive, food hot and fresh. Menu has lots of fried food options even fried alligator. For me its important to have good tarter sauce and I like theirs. Their shrimp was corn meal batter like a catfish. I did try the alligator and to me it tasted like fried chicken but you can tell its alligater based on mouth chew its slightly firmer. But nice to try for first time as app. Im a fan of beer batter fish and chips and this is not that type of battered cod. So I am glad i got shrimp add on, since the cod is not the type of breading that I prefer. It wasnt on the menu but they have it.

I’m not sure what the heck was going on but I’ve been going to Captain Bennys since I was a little girl and I’m 35 now. What they served me and my husband was shocking and disappointing and if my grandmother wasn’t paying, I would have refused to pay for the food that was given to us. Out of respect for my grandmother, I did not bring it up to the waitress. My husband and I got the same Jumbo Fish combo, it comes with three pieces of fish and 6 shrimps. There was no catfish, the thickness of the fillets was no bigger than 1/2 of inch. All you got was batter, we did not bite into fish nor could we taste it. The video attached is exactly what we received with our “three pieces of fish”. There was NO fish present except bits and pieces, each combo was 16 dollars plus tax and tip. Beyond disappointing. If this is how they serve they’re now, I won’t take the risk of coming back. Service was okay and the clientele was unexpected but not shocking.
