We absolutely loved our visit to Cap’s Ice Cream. A charming, family-owned gem that’s been serving up smiles for 25 years (Happy Anniversary this past Saturday 6/20/2025! ). Whether you’re just passing through or a local looking for a sweet treat, this is a must-stop in Mt. Prospect!
The shop itself is adorable. Quaint and cozy with a welcoming porch and a peaceful garden area where you can relax and enjoy your ice cream. Such a perfect setting for a sunny afternoon or an evening sunset! ☀️
Victoria helped us and was so friendly and kind. She made our visit even sweeter! She recommended the Black Raspberry Chip and Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, and WOW… both were incredible! Rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. You can tell their ice cream is truly homemade with love.
They have a huge variety of flavors, so there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a classic vanilla fan or a flavor adventurer, Cap’s has you covered.

As connoisseurs of ice cream I am beyond embarrassed to say we have lived in Mount Prospect for over a year and only just discovered this hidden gem!!! We normally drive 40 min for our favorite ice cream as there was nothing around here close. How did me miss this place!! It is fabulous. Their ice cream is spot on. Perfect texture and consistency and also the perfect sweetness. No terrible fake after taste and they keep the ice cream at just the right temperature. Doesn’t melt right away, nor is it so hard it pops off the cone or has burn. It truly is perfect. Plenty of flavors to choose from, I will say I’ve been back twice already for the licorice flavor and the ice cream taco is my daughter’s new favorite item!
On top of all that, the staff are so friendly. Even with lines out the door they are smiling and super efficient. No long waits. It is in a historic cool building tucked on a quiet short street by a little park. So happy we found this ice cream lovers haven!

Went around 8pm and there’s a long line. Waited less than 30 minutes. Service is fast though. Very friendly young staffs. Small space for indoor dining but the garden outdoor dining area is well lighted and clean. Good atmosphere. There’s a common restroom inside the shop but they kept it clean and neat.

When visiting a friend locally, they suggested we try the best ice cream around, and that sounded like a great challenge. There are many options for sitting outside in a park area, or on the balcony, or inside. When I opened the door and saw both the size of the menu and the many choices of ice cream I was overwhelmed. Staff is very friendly and offer help. I was able to taste 2 different kinds and look forward to next time I am in the area or have a strong craving for ice cream. The store was clean and nicely decorated.

We just got married last weekend and neither of us are big cake people but we LOVE ice cream. We wanted to find an ice cream place that could set up a cart and serve ice cream at our wedding and there were surprisingly few options. I found that Cap’s did exactly what we were looking for but we had to make sure they had a good product as well so we set up a tasting with them. When we got to their warehouse for the tasting, they couldn’t be nicer! They had samples of the flavors we wanted to try set up complete with custom stickers showing our wedding date on the packaging and as soon as we had the first spoonful we were sold! The ice cream is incredible! They showed up on time, set up the cart and toppings table and couldn’t have been better with the guests. I had a number of people tell us how delicious the ice cream was and everybody seemed so excited at the idea of a sundae as opposed to a slice of cake. We couldn’t have been happier with everything about them and we can’t thank them enough, THANK YOU!

Was introduced to this ice cream spot by a friend and they definitely have really amazing ice-cream! I got the Java chip icecream and it was very creamy and rich. The line when we got there was long but service was really quick! The staff were friendly! I definitely want to return to try their other flavors of icecream when in the area!!

I liked the chewy texture like gelato! I tried the Coconut Chips and Gooey Batter(?) flavors and both were really good. I will visit again next time and I would highly recommend this place!! The interior and exterior are pretty, and there are a park and benches nearby, so it’s really a good place to have a sit and eat ice cream.
