A very quaint bistro across from the Cape Fear River just off the River Walk. The food was delicious. The service was great. It’s upstairs/downstairs so the servers work very hard to get drinks and good to the diners on both levels. I would say my only critique would be I prefer my French Onion Soup with beef stock. The chicken stock lacked a little of the richness but it was still very good.

Unexpectedly good! Fresh local Carolina Mountain Trout is simply amazing. Soft white meat with a thin dusting of breading and fried to perfection. I never underestimate an uncomplicated delicious bite. Service on point! Highly recommend ❤️

Had an amazing experience — the atmosphere was cozy and laid-back, the service was super friendly, and Chef James absolutely crushed it with the food. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It’s the kind of spot where you instantly feel comfortable, get treated well, and leave talking about how good the meal was. Easily a 5-star visit and a place I’ll be coming back to for sure.

The service was decent but not exceptional. The duck confit and trout were delicious. The profiteroles have changed from our previous visit and not as good. The chocolate torte had some type of unwanted mousse layer on top. Always good atmosphere.

Been dining at Caprice since moving to Wilmington in 2018. Love it! Though I miss the previous owners tremendously the new owners are doing fabulous job. Stopped in the other night just for cocktails and as usual they did not disappoint!

Caprice Bistro was a delightful discovery in Wilmington. My wife and I were visiting on an overnight trip from Raleigh, hoping to have a good meal and visit Wrightsville Beach for some winter sun.

I originally decided to make a reservation at Caprice after seeing that they offered one of my favorite dishes, Beef Bourguignon. We had taken a sunset stroll along the riverfront and were pleased to see that Caprice Bistro on Market Street was just steps from the waterfront. The street was festively lit with holiday lights.

The best dining location is upstairs. The vibe was established with eclectic music in the background, the icy shake of a cocktail mixer, and intriguing artwork on the brick walls. We enjoyed a cozy table next to the window overlooking the street.

We opened with sparkling wine, a Cremant for me and Le Toast D’Hiver, a cocktail made with Brut, Grand Marinier, and a Demerara sugar cube, for my wife. This was accompanied by Crepe Caprice, delicate crepes filled with spinach, Gruyere, Parmesan, and Brie, topped with a mushroom Sauce.

I ordered the Beef Bourguignon with French Pinot Noir, and my wife opted for the Salmon au Vert, a pistachio-crusted salmon. She enjoyed a glass of white Bordeaux with her dish. The Bourguignon was delicious, although my preference is for large cubes of beef, rather than the larger cuts that were served. That allows for more of a stew-like dish. The taste, though, was certainly spot-on.

The service was outstanding, and the meal was delicious. Yes, we topped it off with a nice flourless chocolate cake for dessert.

Two minor suggestions: First, the glassware should be upgraded to Riedel or something similar to match their well-curated wine list. Second, we enjoyed the artisan-baked bread, but it is even better served warm.

All-in-all, this was a great restaurant discovery. We shall return!

Tried this restaurant a week ago for dinner. They helped us with a table quickly and got us in without a reservation.
The service was chaotic, I had to ask for the waiter many times, ordered a beer that never showed up until I persisted and then wrong food showed up which had to be corrected so my wife ended up finishing her meal while I wait for my food; this could be a honest mistake, however, overall I was not pleased with the service.
The food tasted good and comes hot to your table so it’s not sitting there. I wouldn’t mind going back and trying the profiteroles with the ice cream as that’s what we wanted

Disappointing. Have been there a few times as we live downtown. Started off with appetizers (salad Meli melo and crepe caprice). Salad was good ; crepe heavy (not a surprise; mushroom sauce was good. Three cheeses in the crepe, but they were overall very bland). Ordered our mains- trout and the special, bouillabaisse. 40 minutes later our waiter said would be right out – and we still waited. Asked another person who said I’m sure they’re busy back there. The entrees finally came out; they were both lukewarm. Trout was dry; bouillabaisse was like a tomato soup with some fish pieces tossed in. Nothing at all like the wonderful French dish. Another bland dish. And since we ordered trout and a special you would expect it to be ready fairly quickly.
As far as service goes- I would expect a poor experience to at least have someone apologize or offer something like a comp dessert. Didn’t happen. Hope this was just a one off as caprice is sort of a Wilmington icon.

Went to this location on Valentine’s Day and they had a set menu you could choose from, the food the ok but quite honestly not a lot of taste, crab bisque was very bland, had a lot of crab meat but just kinda gummy I would put it, the lamb & beans were good where the meat fell right off the bone but again just not a lot of taste like maybe missing some herbs or something but honestly we are foodies and it just didn’t have a lot of taste that would make you say this is amazing, my wife had the short ribs with garlic mash potatoes and she felt the same way, the cocktails were exceptional and the deserts flourless chocolate cake and chocolate mousse cake were very good but super rich. The service was fantastic but we had a seat near the door and each time it opened it was very cold.
