The original candlelight inn chicken George recipe and Jan sauce. AYCE Tuesdays. The bar area is really loud with just normal conversation. Our waitress was pretty busy we had to grab napkins ourselves. Chicken George was excellent. The French fries were not, they tasted like dirt and excessive Lawry’s seasoning salt. Onion rings were excellent, one of the best, but could have been fried just a little bit longer. Worth the drive for George

Over and over we accept poor quality food and under service. Why we continue to allow this vendor to handle this clubhouse is beyond me. Fail after fail. So many members complain and the staff says owners won’t support them with the proper help. Here is a typical order. Medium rare burger. Never even got silverware.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at candlelight we were greeted with beautiful flags up and down the sidewalk and then when we came in it was decorated for the 4th of July. The staff were dressed in festive patriotic colors even to having glitter in their hair and beards it Etc it was so much fun. My husband had chicken George it was absolutely amazing. I had ground sirloin done to perfection tasted amazing. Then we had Steve’s homemade tuxedo cake consisting of cake, cream filling, a Divine chocolate mousse and a very thin frosting. Let’s just say it was a delicacy. There is no other way to say it we had a wonderful time and they did a wonderful job. Now that’s what I call a good time. We felt like we were spoiled. Oh and another thing they didn’t freeze us out or cook us out the temperature was just right. At Lake Carroll with you is so beautiful. I wanted to thank Steve and his whole staff keep up the good work. When somebody performs like that you know they care and that means a lot to me.

Everything started off fine, we order and it was on its way. I got my side salad within five minutes of us ordering which set high expectations. But when we got our food I was wanting a refill of my drink. One of the adults at the table asked if we could all have refills and our waiter said with a rude tone, “Why don’t you guys wait because I have other tables to serve.” 45 minutes later I never got a refill but everyone with alcohol did. And she (the waiter) chose to talk to her friends and ignore our table which had a clear view of the bar. Also people with water had to go down the hall just to get a refill. After another 30 minutes we left while the others awaited the bill which also took long. The waiter was unprofessional, she had black hair and a very rude attitude and should either be fired or talked to.

I’ve been to 2 of the other Candlelights many times over the course of about 50 yrs as a I grew up in Sterling. I’ve been to this one twice and both times the service was horrible. First time was during the summer and it was quite loud and crowded which was what you would expect at a golf club with all that energy. It took forever for the waitress to even take our order and didn’t check on us at all until we were done eating. The food was okay but it would have been nice to have our drinks refilled. The wait time for food both times we went was acceptable. Our 2nd time was yesterday. There were maybe 4 people at the bar and nobody at tables until about 10 min before we left. The women (dark hair) that took our order spent almost the entire time chatting with her back to us with the couple that were at the bar, not paying attention for us enough to even get her attention to let her know the garlic mashed potatoes were below warm, I would say room temp at best. We shouldn’t have been expected to yell to her or go up to the bar to interrupt the convo to address this. We were almost done with our Chicken George before she walked by us going to the people that had just sat down at a table. She was nice enough and we did get steaming hot potatoes a few minutes later. I was able to ask the blonde that brought them to us to refill our drinks. This is unacceptable.

Utterly disappointing. Looked forward to dinner on June 25. Arrived at 5:45pm. Restaurant was booked out so I went downstairs for the fish fry. The patio had many open tables; there were only two other tables with people seated. Waited 10 minutes. Fifteen minutes later many people started to arrive. Tables of five or more, all seated after me, ordered drinks and dinners. I tried numerous times to get a waitress to look my way. No luck. Not even a glass of water. Gave it ten more minutes and got up and left. Perhaps I expected too much from this new company but they are missing the boat. Waitstaff don’t have a clue. I’ll give them another try to see if it improves. As a member of Lake Carroll for 20 years, it’s disheartening to see this. Bring back the old crew.

My daughter and son in law and 3 kids went there for dinner yesterday, Friday, 7/23/21. They were seated in the bar even though tables were empty in the dining room. They ordered drinks and burgers and onion rings. No utensils or napkins and glasses and plates were dirty and greasy and still had scraps from previous diners. Second bad experience. What has happened to a one time decent restaurant? Whoever the manager is should be cited by the Board of Health. Never again. Either Lake Carroll residents are happy with this slop or they haven’t been out in a long time.
Went back yesterday, May 18, 2023. Were able to sit on the porch. Very pleasant. Our waiter was very pleasant but seriously over worked with tables outside, inside and in the bar. Why are you so short staffed?Ordered onion rings and a Reuben sandwich which had no taste. Even the sauerkraut was tasteless. Onion rings were gigantic and good. Had coffee and asked for dessert menu. Desserts served only on weekends. Who does that? Not even a cookie? I don’t understand how Lake Carroll people rave about this restaurant. At least at McDonald’s you can get a cookie or some ice cream. The menu here is very limited. Call me a foodie snob but they need to do better.
