We’re Cancun Mexican Grill & Bar and we’ve been a local Mexican restaurant here in Cedar Rapids since 2013 but we have been business for over 25 years. We believe in excellent service, offering fresh food made to order, delicious seafood, and amazing margaritas. Family-owned, we started this business to provide our community with great food in a fun gathering place. I kicked off my Cedar Rapids Mexican food gauntlet after eating bad Mexican food yesterday. I wanted a redemption shot and I’m glad I took it at Cancun. A few things:
1. This is the best chimi I’ve ever had. I’m from Ohio and if you’d told me that I’d have the best chimichanga in Iowa of all places I would ignore you—because that sounds crazy. But here I am writing a review because it was so good. Eat the changa’s and you won’t regret it.
2. I am on a work trip so I brought my kindle to read while eating. The server was quick and attentive, while also letting me read uninterrupted. Now I’m reading at a restaurant so I don’t expect someone to care if I’m reading or not, but it felt like they were respectful of my reading which was cool.
3. Their tortilla chips are huge, and I don’t know why, but Iowa is 2 for 2 on Mexican restaurants having absurdly large chips. Not a pro or a con, just something I noticed. Perhaps I’ll go 3 for 3 tomorrow on large chips.

Always a great experience, They support Military and First Responders. The food is authentic and delicious. Service is top notch. The drinks are amazing and they are able to package them to go.

Place needs a deep cleaning, sticky tables, booths are beat to heck, all sorts of trash along the windowsills.
No waiting for a booth on a Sunday afternoon, lots of people at the bar.
Platter of chips and salsa got dropped off at the table. No drink order taken, chips were crunchy, salsa was just chunky tomatoe soup. No kick, no heat.
Ordered drinks and meal at the same time. Asked if they had a salsa with a little more heat/spice to it. Lady said she’d get us some.
Drinks came out quickly, no salsa….
My food came out, no salsa.
3-5 minutes later, wife’s food came out, no salsa
Refill of drinks, finally got spicy red sauce. That was good.
Meals were ehhh, rice and beans were nothing special, chimichanga and burrito were thick with chicken, but no flavors other than the spicy salsa.
$45 with tip, just not impressed overall.

Friendly service and good food. The prices were very reasonable and the portion sizes were rather large. Would have preferred the onions and peppers to have been grilled a little longer but, that’s just a preference. The tortilla shells tasted as though they were made fresh and the housemade horchata was delicious.

I am so disappointed. The nachos we ordered were wet with a puddle of liquid at the bottom and no caso. We also asked for no jalapenos and I was covered with them. When I ordered my meal I asked for my chimi to have white sauce and it came with red and he so7nded frustrated with me. Then when they brought it back it was burnt to a crisp and they left all the toppings off of it. I asked if it was supposed to come with toppings (like my first one did) and she said that she thought I only wanted the white sauce and that was it. Needless to say I left all the food on the table and flushed down 55.00 never again

The atmosphere was fun and colorful and the outdoor seating was nice. The service was fairly slow but the restaurant was extremely busy and our server worked hard. Food was good! We had the queso fundido as an appetizer, which was amazing!! Main courses were shrimp fajitas and arroz con pollo, each were delicious!

Excellent food and service. The first picture is the chips and salsa they bring you as an appetizer as soon as you sit down without you having to order it. We shared an order of seafood nachos which was plenty for us two. The wife had a black cherry Margarita and I had a pinia coloda. Both were excellent. Our total bill was under $30. Very reasonable.

Our waitress was inattentive. Had to flag her down for whatever we needed every time, finally had to flag another. Then she disappeared all together. Not to mention very unfriendly. I smiled at her every time she came to our table, as well as thank you’s and please. Not one smile in return. As for the food, not much better. The only thing that was good was the queso.

Not to much to choose from mainly chicken, beef, shrimp , I was craving more traditional plates like with ,lengua,tripas,barbacoa,caldos. If you want regular semi-authentic go for it is a good family environment. The plates that they do offer are good and they do offer alcoholic drinks.
