I have passed this place a many times and I guess I just slept on it. I wanted to grab a bite to eat and had planned on going to plaza AZ tec. I got there and it was too crowded for me. So I googled food near me before I pulled off. Came across canastas, i was basically right across the street. When I tell yall im glad I went to this place im not joking!! I wound up having to wait 20 minutes for my food but it was well worth the wait. Everything was seasoned to perfection. Great customer service and the vibe was very good too. I was really big on chicken fiesta but this place is a step above them in my opinion. If you haven’t been to this place you have to try them out. They don’t disappoint, i will definitely be a regular there from now on. Also you’ll definitely get your money’s worth!!

From the second you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell. Not overwhelming, not greasy, not “fast food harsh.” It smells warm, seasoned, fresh like real cooking is happening back there. That alone sets the tone. We ordered a little bit of everything because that’s how you do it when you’re trying a new spot. I had the Chicharrón de Pescado, my grandmother ordered the lamb chops (medium) with potatoes, and my daughter got chicken empanadas with sopa de res. Let me tell you I tasted everyone’s plate. My grandmother was cleaning her lamp chop bones. The empanadas were so flavorful crispy outside, perfectly filled inside. And that sopa de res? Pure comfort in a bowl. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, rich broth, warming from the inside out. The kind of soup that makes you pause mid-bite.
My fish was fried perfectly crispy well seasoned served over fresh lettuce with a salad and mixed veggies. It felt indulgent but balanced. We also got fresh mango juice and it was so good. If you want to save a little, they do have fountain drinks. The setup is interesting. You walk up to the register almost like Chipotle style but everything is made to order. The walls are covered in large photos of every dish they offer. I love that. The hospitality was genuinely warm. The whole atmosphere felt welcoming. It’s Peruvian food so it’s Latin flavors, seasoned, comforting and vibrant.
And I appreciated that there were options for everyone. My grandmother doesn’t eat pork or shellfish and she still had plenty of flavorful choices. Healthy options, hearty options, tons of sauces to experiment with.
Bonus moment: my daughter is learning Spanish and got to order in Spanish. That made the experience even more special for us. It’s a little pricier but it’s fresh, made-to-order, real food. And you taste the difference.
We had a beautiful time. Great food, warm service, welcoming atmosphere. We’ll absolutely be back.

I recently tried Canasta’s Chicken on Hall Street, and the food was so good that it prompted me to visit the Midlothian Turnpike location the very next day.

During my first visit (around 3:00 PM), everything was outstanding. The vegetables were seasoned perfectly, the green rice was top tier, and the lamb chops were incredibly juicy and flavorful. That meal alone convinced me that I had found a new favorite spot.

Unfortunately, my experience the following evening (around 7:30–8:00 PM) was very different. I ordered the same meal—lamb chops with green rice and mixed vegetables—because I’m currently on a lamb chop kick. This time, however, the food was noticeably subpar. The rice and mixed vegetables tasted like they came straight out of a can, and the overall quality just didn’t match what I experienced the day before.

I still recommend this restaurant because I know how great the food can be. However, based on my experience, it may be best to visit earlier in the day when it’s less busy, as the evening service didn’t live up to the standard I saw during my first visit.

I have a rule as one of the top restaurant reviewers on Google. When I travel, I don’t do chain stores such as Burger King, Wendy’s or any other nationwide store. I need something small authentic and good.

Canastas did not disappoint. Referred by the front desk of the hotel i’m staying at, I went here with a meal in mind, and the meal was pleasing indeed. As a former restaurant owner in Dallas, Texas, I know good food, good service, and a good atmosphere. This place is lacking in atmosphere (music), but excelling in all the relevant areas.

On Day 1, I ordered and dined in a half chicken with fried rice and string beans. 10 out of 10. So, then I ordered fried rice ale mixed vegetables to go because, I had only eaten half the chicken. The leftovers were 10 out of 10.

Today, at Dominion Power, I mentioned to a guy I was going back there, and so was he. I went back and ordered the lamb chops (busting), fried rice and green beans. Absolutely great.

I would highly recommend this this hidden gem. Try it. You’ll love it.

I absolutely enjoyed the platter starring the shrimp skewers. My husband had the trio meat platter and my son the chicken skewers platter. We will return!

I went to eat with my family this Wednesday, and the person at the counter recommended that I try the salmon and the ultimate parilla, which was absolutely delicious. We definitely needed a restaurant like this in this area. The chicken is also delicious and the seasoning is perfect and it’s cooked just right. I recommend it for a family meal. I love the platanos too.

After dining in twice in the past two weeks and did I mention for the first time I have to say that Canastas makes chicken a healthy and yummy choice any day of the week but especially for someone who’s fasting during lent, and is on a ‘no red meat’ diet the perfect choice! It is bursting with flavor and the different layers grains, protein, veggies and so much more makes every bite delectable! And just when I thought that was reason enough I looked up at the monitor and they were playing Christian music and that made it the only place to dine in! The service is amazing and the staff are full of smiles! Good music, good good and good company makes this the ideal place to be! Only pre-req – come hungry!

This place has 3 ways to order. Online, 2 kiosks and they will take your order at the end of the line. It has a huge menu. Some of the meat and sides you can see as you walk through the line. They give big portions of food (I took home food). The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have chicken fried rice as a side ( which was very good especially after they put my steak on top. Yum). The potatoes were good but needed more salt (which you can add but can’t take it away). I also got the refried beans which were very tasty. The empanadas are huge and taste very good too. When I’m back in town I’m going to try the soup next..it looked so good.

This place is a phenomenal choice if you’re a fan of Chicken Fiesta(down the street)or delicious Peruvian food. The menu is a unique mix of Peruvian fusion, offering a wide variety of excellent options chicken, steak, lamb ,and some left field options(gyros?) that go beyond traditional Peruvian fare—something you won’t find at a place like Chicken Fiesta.

We had a great dining experience, the place has a quieter clientele compared to chicken fiesta. The rotisserie chicken was fantastic and well seasoned, and the lamb was cooked to perfection. The rice and beans yuca were also top-notch, and the whole family, including the kids, found something they loved on the menu.

The atmosphere is clean, fast premium, and the service is reasonably quick and friendly; they are using kiosks for orders, so if you want to save time order online. The staff was great took time to answer questions . Be aware that the restaurant has a clear Christian theme, with Christian music and Bible verses on the TVs. We found this to be a respectful and honest touch. Prices are reasonable, with a cost of around $20 per person. We were all very satisfied and will definitely be returning.
