Was invited to dine there by a chance meeting from the Chef’s mother. The food is excellent and I love that they use fresh ingredients they purchase from farmers right here in Michigan. I had the Whiting fish, my husband had chicken, and our guests had the steak. We spent two hours there. The average cost for four people is about $120.00 and its worth it!

This place is soo good! The food was amazing! It was cooked perfectly and the alligator is a must try! It was soo good and tender! It melts in your mouth. I wish I would have gotten a pic for you but once I took my first bite I couldn’t stop until it was gone lol! I can’t wait to go there again!

Had a very positive experience here previously, but this restaurant has gone significantly downhill. Went in tonight at 6:27pm. We were seated and apparently forgotten about. Five servers went back and forth past our table multiple times and no one said a word to us for 32 minutes. Yes, it was busy for a Wednesday night, and I would have understood if someone had merely checked in with our table to let us know they were having problems, brought us drinks, updated…. but there was no contact with staff at all. When we were finally served, we ordered the flank steak dinner and the mushroom risotto dinner. The flank steak dinner was acceptable. Overcooked, but a decent flavor profile with the accompaniments. The mushroom risotto was terrible. It appeared to be sticky minute rice with two spinach leaves and three mushroom slices. No flavor. Zero. Wet watery sticky minute rice…gross. No evidence of white wine or butter used, no onion or cream, zero flavor. We both tried, neither of us could eat it. I mentioned the poor risotto to two different servers, asked one to please ask the kitchen to taste it, that ingredients were clearly missing. I was told, “there’s really nothing I can do about it, I’m sorry.” And given a bill. It’s the last time Canal Street will have my business.

When you desire a healthy meal, Canal Street Cafe has great options. I had the wild caught Black Sea Bass, which was fantastic. Thick pieces of bass cooked to perfection, with fresh steamed broccoli. The accompanying cucumber salsa would have been great, had it not contained cilantro. (That tidbit of info. should be divulged in the description. For some palates, ie: mine, cilantro can ruin an otherwise fantastic meal.) Fortunately, the bass was sooo good, it made up for it

Always a wonderful dining experience. Owner obviously cares about her business; she greets guests at the door and checks in on them while dining. Our waitress always seemed to be right there when we needed her, as if by telepathy. Menu is limited, but everything on it is amazingly good.

Very good, service was friendly and quick. This was the chicken marsala and it was tender, sauce was flavorful. We had kalettes as an appetizer which were delicious, however slightly pricey.
