The bean and cheese burrito was terrible. Basically just slop. The breakfast burrito was OK nothing special. Unfortunate really because I had high hopes. If they can’t make a good bean and cheese burrito I doubt any of the other burritos etc. are good. Taqueria Vallarta in Santa Cruz, CA knows how to make a bean and cheese,a simple yet delicious burrito if done right, ie white cheese, xtra large tortilla and dry beans (not mush). I’m sorry perhaps they can remedy it.

We were hangry—like, dangerously hangry—and this food truck saved our lives. We got the Cheeto quesadilla and Cheeto burrito, and OMG… absolutely next-level. Crunchy, cheesy, flavorful, and packed with just the right kick. It was messy in the best way and so satisfying. Every bite was heaven, and it hit the spot like no other.
If you’re craving something bold, indulgent, and ridiculously good, this is it. Trust me, your tastebuds will thank you. ❤️

Fist spot we went to right after we landed here so glad we did , the tacos hit the spot !! If you want tacos with a kick come to this spot !! Easy quick and delicious ! Real twist on the tacos – different than the fish tacos I’ve usually had . Nice way to start the trip.

AMAZING!!!!! I could have ate here multiple times while in Hawaii!!! Too bad we found it on our way home …but so glad we did!!! I got the Ahi burrito and my husband got the Chorizo breakfast burrito and we split a Birria quesadilla…and it was all delicious!!!!! They are only open Monday thru Thursday 9-3 so make sure you schedule a time to swing by here!!

Food was pretty good, but the price for what you get was higher than the quality and flavor called for. Eating out front was nice for a moment but the flies! OMG, I almost at some there were so many. I would have rated higher but the service was lukewarm as well, not bad, but meh (again, for the money). I don’t mind paying for quality and great service, but this was just not there yet. A few tweaks and genuinely grateful smiles would set this place apart. The buzzers were a nice touch so you don’t have to wait around making it look like everyone is in line.

Best Mexican food we have had on the island, worth the trip from Hilo side. We got the Cholo Dog and California Burrito.

Indulge in the flavors of “Califas Mexican Food,” that offers an array of mouthwatering street-style tacos, burritos, and more. While they often operate as a food truck scattered throughout Kailua-Kona town, you can always count on finding them at the weekly Food Truck Fridays in the Target Parking lot area or Home Depot parking lot. I highly recommend following them on social media to track their whereabouts. With friendly staff and consistently impressive food, each visit to their food truck is a culinary adventure you won’t want to miss. Satisfy your cravings and experience the true taste of Califas Mexican Food.

Califas Mexican Food saved the day at Kona Brewing Company as Kona Brewing doesn’t serve food on Sundays. We shared the chicken nachos from Califas which had great flavor. The chips were crunchy and delicious. I’m not sure where they normally set up shop but follow them on social media to see where they are on the Big Island.

As someone who moved here almost 10 years ago from Texas, I gotta say it is a breath of fresh air to have a place like this where you can get quality and amazing mexican food. These quesobirria tacos and consume were perfect!! Excellent price and worth every penny. We have other spots but this one is where the Texan recommends, check em out!
