My kids were thrifting and I met them for lunch. Calico’s had both lunch and breakfast items, that suited my crew well.
Service is happy and efficient.and we were greeted promptly by Hollin, who went on to make several recommendations, since we were first timers. She was just a really outwardly happy person, which is always good to see, because of the back of the house is happy too, well, happy people make good good. You can quote me on that.
The restaurant is extremely clean and there is plenty of room to dine in.
But you want to hear about the food.
Scrambled Eggs on your face – their biggest seller, and for good reason,
Bam Bam – my personal favorite, bacon, egg, rolled in a pancake covered with maple syrup. GET THIS.
Fireproof – my son really enjoyed this.
Brisket Bowl – another solid choice for our crew.
We really did not find anything bad, but we did have a few choices we ranked at the top. For me it was the Bam Bam, my son, The Fireproof, and my daughter lived her brisket bowl.
Good find for breakfast or lunch.
Area 51 and Texas Hold’em: Very simple but well seasoned, pairs well with their spicy and tomatillo salsas. You can tell the tortillas are fresh, makes a huge difference.
Bam Bam: Star of the show! My husbands favourite out of everything. Perfect blend of breakfast and lunch. The bacon is the perfect amount of crispy and the ratio of bacon to egg to pancake is truly outstanding.
Calico Hash: The potato was crunchy kind of like potato straws which I didn’t expect but it definitely grew on me. The flavors are so good and once I added salsa and mixed everything up it perfectly blended together.
Overall I think Calico Cactus is a great place to grab some breakfast or lunch (or both). Everything has great flavor and the prices are pretty good considering the amount of filling you get. The bowl especially was a decent size for only $10.75. We’ll be back to try their coffees and extended drink menu.
My daughter did not enjoy her burrito. She said the eggs were very wet, and when she bit into it the bacon was stringy and basically made the eggs fall out of the burrito when she had to fight to bite through it.
Also not sure if the potatoes inside the burritos were supposed to be fried hard, but for us that was completely the wrong texture and taste. Softer hash brown potatoes would have gone much better.
The tot bites were pretty delicious. The start was also very very nice.
I attended Coffee with a Commissioner put- an event out in by our City Government this week and I am so glad I got to try out the food and drinks here.
I had the Bees Knees which was an equal blend of honey and vanilla latte topped with cinnamon which was delicious. The thing that blew me away was the Gravy Crocket taco though – the mix of Bacon, potatoes, green chili spicy chorizo gravy was the perfect start to my day. The owners also brought over some fresh made chips and queso along with some delicious salsas as well. Give this not so classic combo a try and you will definitely be back for more.
Wish I was lying when I said I traveled all the way from San Diego, CA just to get my favorite taco of all the time… the ‘squawk on the street’! I tried two of Miranda’s tasty creations first was the Miranda breakfast taco and second was the best lavender latte I have ever consumed, the ‘Purple moon’ Miranda’s way which featured some oat milk and splash of syrup. Sheeba came over to our table and made sure we had anything we could’ve wanted (even to chat about our favorite things in SD)!
The vibe is always so uplifting and you can always feel that uplifting welcome no matter the time you walk in the door ☺️
