Reviews
Had breakfast at Caledonia two days in a row! The first day I had the typical country breakfast, scrambled eggs, sausage, grits, and a huge biscuit.. they grill the biscuits so they are really good. So the next day I went back for another breakfast and one of my favorites is an omelette with tomato and either feta or goat cheese and then crumble bacon on the top. They did it with the goat cheese and I must say it was absolutely awesome. I have been to hell in many times, but this is the first time I have been up here to Valhalla to their dining room and it was very impressive. Complimentary valet parking too!
Staying at the Valhalla with a few friends, and a few of the staff recommended we try out the Sky Bar for drinks and dinner.
The Food: After checking out their menu, I landed on the “Lump Crab Cakes” as an appetizer and the “Grilled C.A.B Ribeye” for my main entree. The crab cakes were delicious! There was plenty of crab filling and they were baked to perfection. Nicely sized too. The Ribeye was tender and juicy. Cooked to my requested temperate and the sweet potato mash that comes with it was seasoned perfectly. Highly recommend getting both options. I also had a a piece of cake from their dessert selection, but can’t remember the flavor. However, I do remember it being a very delicious cake.
The Service: Service here was impeccable! The staff were friendly and attentive. Service was amazing. Food was brought out in a timely manner and we didn’t have to wait for water refills.
The Atmosphere: The Sky Bar is located at the top of the Valhalla, and they have an open door section that shows the nice view of the mountains. Lovely place for a date or to hang with some friends. The restaurant is a little small though.
Overall, a 5/5! Highly recommend coming up to the Sky Bar and checking their menu out. Lovely staff, service and food.
The Caledonia Restaurant is a culinary delight. Service was essentially perfect. A must-go for sure. We ate here after cocktails and wine upstairs at the elegant SkyBar…
Wow! what a view
The Caledonia Room at the Valhalla Resort Hotel offers more than just a meal—it provides a truly memorable fine dining experience steeped in elegant, rustic charm. Every course of our recent dinner showcased the kitchen’s commitment to both quality ingredients and sophisticated execution.
We began our culinary journey with the classic Artichoke and Spinach Dip, served perfectly warm and rich. This comforting favorite was balanced beautifully by the Creamy Plant-Based Soup. Often, plant-based dishes can lack body, but this soup was velvety and surprisingly complex, demonstrating an innovative approach to flavor and texture that impressed everyone at the table.
For the main course, the Carolina Trout was the undisputed highlight. The fish was impeccably fresh, flaky, and cooked with a lightness that allowed its delicate, natural flavors to shine. It was a true celebration of regional sourcing. The side of Sweet Potato Fries offered a perfect counterpoint—crisp on the outside, tender within, and seasoned just right to complement the savory trout.
To conclude, the White Chocolate Cheesecake with Raspberries provided a decadent finale. The cheesecake was wonderfully smooth and rich with a distinct white chocolate flavor, perfectly cut by the tart, bright burst of the fresh raspberries. It was the ideal balance of sweetness and freshness.
The entire experience, from the beautifully appointed dining room to the truly excellent food, was elevated by the exceptional service. Our server, Anthony Perez, was instrumental in this—he was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm, ensuring every detail of our meal was flawless.
The Caledonia Room confirms itself as a must-visit destination. It elevates resort dining to an art form and is highly recommended for anyone seeking a sophisticated and deeply satisfying meal.
My sister’s steak was cooked incorrectly, the chicken was misleadingly advertised, and what was ordered as soda turned out to be plain soda water. We repeatedly asked for the soda water issue to be corrected, yet they continued sending out soda water … A salad could not be modified, despite the requested change being simple. We were initially told the bread was “in the oven”, only to be informed 30 mins later that they were completely out. The burrata was also unavailable.
We were a table of 8 on Christmas Eve, yet management couldn’t be bothered to push two tables together for us- something you would expect to be standard for a restaurant presenting itself as upscale, especially on a holiday where the restaurant was not that busy. Should have been ready for the evening without running out of ingredients.
The most disappointing aspect was the response from the assistant general manager. When concerns were raised, there was zero empathy or accountability. No apology, no attempt to make things right, nothing. This was especially frustrating given we had already waited an hour and a half for our meals, then had to wait even longer for the steak to be cooked correctly.
For the amount of money spent, one would expect service that matches the polished atmosphere, but the execution fell far short. Dressing a place up doesn’t guarantee quality or professionalism.
That said, our waitress Regan was excellent – absolutely no issues with her. The problems here clearly stem from leadership and management, not the serving staff. I’m just passing through, but if I wasn’t, I would never return to this restaurant.
