The cauliflower was great.
The pear hummus was really nice.
Those two dishes were doing their job.
Now… the $34 chicken.
I don’t know what happened in the kitchen, but this bird had clearly lived a long, hard life. Dry, overcooked, skin like beef jerky, meat falling off the bone in a “please let me rest” kind of way. Costco’s rotisserie chicken is laughing somewhere.
The lamb hummus was just okay and a bit too salty. Nothing exciting.
We waited about 30 minutes, then got seated at the bar in a space so cramped I felt like I was dining in economy class.
Service was slow and not very attentive.
Then came the bill surprise:
20% tip
• 5% “employee insurance”
= Paying extra to be disappointed.
Final total: $170 for two people. One glass of wine. One sad chicken. Lots of regret.
This place has potential. Some dishes prove it. But at this price point, I expected “wow,” not “why.”
Hope they fix it. I’d love to come back for the cauliflower. Just… not the chicken.
We didn’t wait long for our dishes, though we arrived very early (around 5:30 p.m.), so the place wasn’t full yet. The space is extremely tight, and I imagine it could feel uncomfortable once the restaurant gets busy.
Service was friendly and attentive.
What really bothered us was the mandatory 22% service charge, along with a note on the receipt explaining that this charge does not go to the server, who would also appreciate a separate tip. The server repeated this when presenting the bill. As visitors to Seattle from London, we’ve never encountered this approach before, and it felt passive-aggressive. Once you add tax, a 22% service charge, and then the expectation of an additional tip, the value becomes questionable. The food is tasty and the place is cute, but the way service charges and tipping are handled takes away from the overall experience.
The service was excellent (shout out to Rebar and I wish I got the host’s name who was great and also manning the bar.)
Favorites: rockfish main and the side of carrots.
Only critiques: 1/ the pool of grease in the hummus coming from the lamb. Maybe getting the lamb on the side would solve? I don’t think it was just Olive oil but it’s possible it could have been.
2/ the space is very tight. If you sit at the counter, every time a server or patron walks by your chair is getting bumped. It was really annoying, but seemed impossible to avoid.
3/ the bread, I can’t recall if it was described as pita or what, was underwhelming. Flat and flavorless. For such yummy sauces to sop up with bread, it shouldn’t be an afterthought!
Also, 22% service charge that doesn’t include gratuity is wild.
Food is good, but not good enough to return for that robbery.
Things are meant to be family style and usually about 3-5 dishes get you full. Was reccomended us an orange wine they had. It was a smooth drink that paired really well with the food.
Try to go on a weekday since I’ve been told they are very busy Friday-Sunday
I asked the waiter if this was of Syrian/Lebanese Levantine origin, she told us it’s by a sudanese owner who was inspired by Levantine food mixes.
Place is pretty cramped, was told they use to have even more camped space before they slightly expanded.
Overall not bad, I would definitely come back if they change the menu up a bit.
Also as a note, granularity is already included by default. No need to tip.
It’s a cozy place; we got seated at the bar and it was fun watching the chefs assemble the food. Suliman is a semi finalist for the James Beard award, very well deserved!
Marc offers a kind patient service. This restaurant has commited to building meaningful connections with their flavors and warm greetings.
