*Review update: The management actually called me back, which totally shocked me! I went back to the restaurant, and it felt super welcoming inside, really clean and nicely decorated. They remade my original order, and it was like night and day compared to the first one. Because of that and how understanding the store management was, I wanna upgrade my review. I’ll definitely go back, but I’m skipping the drive-thru next time. 4 stars.
One thing I felt I could always count on is their consistency. It always felt like whatever you ordered was made w/ intention and it never felt like fast food.
This location has failed me one too many times. I placed an online order last night and every single dish was made incorrectly. We picked up probably 15 mins after ordering, and everything was cold. My little cousin actually ended up getting sick after.. which I really hate to say. I love Cafe Rio, so I couldn’t give it a 1 star, but this location definitely deserves it. I think they need to hire a whole new crew because whatever they’re doing back there just ain’t right…
I did call back and the woman I spoke to refunded all of the food, which I really appreciated. I’ll probably still go back to since it’s never usually this bad, I just wont go to this location 🙁
When I walked in, the two staff members simply stared at me. I was the only person in line, with just one table occupied, yet I had to ask if they were ready to take my order. That alone set an uncomfortable tone.
I am vegetarian, and it continues to boggle my mind that I always have to remind staff that guacamole is included with a vegetarian order. The first staff member did not get a single item correct. The next staff member—a tall young African American gentleman—appeared completely disengaged. He mumbled, did not acknowledge me when I repeated myself, and still managed to get my sauces wrong.
The only positive interaction was with the cashier, a young Hispanic man who was friendly, attentive, and clearly trying to provide good service.
Overall, the experience was shocking. Between the lack of cleanliness, poor customer service, and repeated order issues, this visit sealed it for me. I will not be returning to this location—and honestly, I will be avoiding Cafe Rio altogether for quite some time.
Crazy experience.
So then I started going inside and the staff inside is so unfriendly. One of The guys who works the food line inside (Tuesday nights)has no knowledge or care about food safety. I watched him wear the same set of gloves through multiple orders and opening and closing doors /drawers/etc. it was disgusting. I guess ignorance was bliss going through the drive thru. Also last week none of the juices were filled and I noticed 75% of the soda was out of order after I purchased 3 large drinks. Not cool to warn me I only had 2 selections- It’s such a bad location. I have finally had enough and won’t be returning. They need food safety training or a whole new staff. It’s too bad -We love cafe Rio..
While the food itself was great—fresh, flavorful, and satisfying—the service left a lot to be desired. The person on the prep line seemed untrained and lacked knowledge about the menu, which made the ordering process a bit frustrating. Additionally, the staff member appeared visibly unhappy and unwelcoming, which definitely impacted the overall experience. It’s important to note that this attitude should not be taken out on paying customers.
If you’re considering giving this location a try, I’d recommend visiting one of the other established Cafe Rio branches, such as the ones on Sahara or Durango Drive. Those locations tend to offer better service, more attentive staff, and a more welcoming atmosphere.
