This was a great place to go to eat inside Terminal A at the SLC Airport! The workers were nice. Restaurant was clean. They had a lady working hard keeping the dining area clean. I ordered a Build Your Own Bowl with mixed shredded beef and steak. I had mild salsa, cheese, lettuce, peppers, Mexican shredded cheese and black beans. I also had a grilled chicken taco which also included lettuce, jalapeño, sour cream, black beans, and a red salsa. To drink I had mint limeade and a refill of horchata! It all was super yummy!!!

A Vegetarian Delight at Cafe Rio – SLC Airport

Cafe Rio at Salt Lake City Airport is a bustling spot, but the experience is worth it! As vegetarians, we were delighted by the variety of options available. The customer service was impeccable – friendly, fast, and attentive.

The food? Absolutely delicious! We tried the enchiladas, nachos with melted cheese and guacamole (which were superb), and the taco salad that was incredibly tasty. Everything was fresh and flavorful.

This place is a gem for vegetarians and anyone who loves great Mexican cuisine. Highly recommend – 10/10!

AVOID AT ALL COST! My friend literally found PLASTIC IN HER FOOD mid bite. Then we were met with the worst attitude/customer service from an employee name Daysi when we went back to let them know. I don’t believe things like this happen often at Cafe Rio but just having an employee meet us with such hostility for simply coming across a choking hazard was enough to let others know. Especially at the airport, this was such an uncalled for way to handle things. The other employee who tried to helped my friend with this situation was a little nicer but telling someone to not cuss who almost ate plastic showed she was more concerned about others hearing what had happen then her almost EATING PLASTIC FROM THEIR FOOD! Overall gross and horrible way to treat people. Please look the photo of how big this plastic was.

Ordered a lunch burrito, in short avoid the burrito. They have no clue how to make a burrito that doesnt fall apart completely and turn into a burrito bowl.

I love Mexican food. And I ordered a burrito, they proceeded to load it with the first few ingredients, then was going to put it in a filling toaster, I asked they were going to put the vegetable that were on the other side of the toaster as well in the burrito, he just replied “yes yes” then the next lady takes the burrito (in its plater) and asks me what other thinks I want, so I asked for leturlce and they procede to put it beside the burrito, so I asked to have it in the burrito and then she replied to me (in limited english) that I should have me toned that to the first young man, otherwise it will make a messy burrito. So they converse in Spanish (mumbling something) and the young man proceeds to come and add things to my burrito, and i ask wont this make it soggy as the lady said and he just mumbles something, they then complete my order and charge me. I proceed to sit down in the dining area and the burrito just falls apart, it was improperly rolled together and is not edible with hands alone. So I go back to the counter and asks for them to use a new wrap (they t all me to throw out my old one and they will make me a new one, this time everything is added and no toaster is used and I ask if it will hold up this way and they say yes…. welll it doenst, still poorly rolled and just completely falls appart.
Typically at other Mexican places they use a penny ni press or something of the likes to harden the pita. So in short order a bowl or something easy. Otherwise the food itself as the ingredients were good.

If you read the various reviews, it’s really a difference of when you go. So when I went to this Cafe Rio around 11 AM mountain standard time it wasn’t too busy. There’s probably about two people in line one person at the kiosk and probably about eight people sitting down to eat Didn’t seem like there was a lot of orders being done online so to get my first burrito that I ate and it was delicious came out quickly. And then I ordered four burritos to go to bring home to the family and got all the lettuce and pico de gallo on the side, after the flight heating up the food was very delicious family really enjoyed having Cafe Rio being brought from the airport. So my experience, the food was on point flavors were delicious. Food was fresh and hot. The service was friendly, courteous the staff person asked me if I wanted to keep the receipt because that was very nice considering I was traveling and, the overall atmosphere was good. It was an overwhelming. There was a huge line. It got a little bit busier as we got closer to 12 but I think that was overwhelming.

So my suggestion is order with caution if there’s a major line in front of you as things might get long waiting for your food and or service might not be as on point as you might like

When hunger strikes during a layover at the Salt Lake City International Airport, Cafe Rio Fresh Modern Mexican is a welcome sight. I always appreciate finding a familiar and reliable option, and this location certainly delivers on its promise of “pretty good Mexican food.”
On my most recent visit, I gravitated towards my absolute favorite: the “grilled chicken salad.” The chicken was tender and flavorful, perfectly grilled, and the fresh greens and vibrant toppings made for a satisfying and relatively healthy airport meal. The dressing, with its signature tang, really brings the whole dish together. They also offer a variety of other staples like burritos, tacos, and quesadillas, all prepared with that characteristic Cafe Rio freshness. The aroma of their freshly made tortillas is always a bonus.
One of the pleasant surprises about this Cafe Rio, especially for an airport establishment, is its pricing. While you will not find street taco prices, their cost is “almost decent prices compared to any other airport restaurant.” This is a significant factor when you are trying to make smart decisions about where to spend your money while traveling. It feels like you are getting good value for the quality of food you receive, which is not always the case in airport concessions.
The service is usually efficient, which is crucial when you have a flight to catch. The lines can get long during peak hours, but they move quickly. The dining area is clean, and while seating can be limited, I have always managed to find a spot.
If you are craving fresh, flavorful Mexican food at the Salt Lake City International Airport, Cafe Rio is a solid choice. I highly recommend the grilled chicken salad, and you can feel good knowing you are getting a tasty meal without completely breaking the bank.

I don’t live near any Cafe Rio location but used to enjoy their food when I would pass through somewhere that had their food. But they seem to have changed their recipes on some items and it’s very disappointing. Their queso used to be SOO good and now it is DISGUSTING and the appearance is very unappetizing. It looks like vomit and the texture was also very grainy. I was so disappointed and only took a couple of bites before just throwing it all away. I won’t be back to any location.

Loved their self serve to-go kiosk! Line moved quickly, excellent completely custom ordering system, clear understanding of when your order is ready and has simple pickup system. It is timely, accurate and so convenient! You may also choose to “eat in” at their seated area. It’s bright, kept clean and has the right amount of employees to deliver a reliably yummy experience without missing your plane! When the airline crew recommend somewhere – Believe them!

Busy place , checked it out as we were hungry after a long layover . Ordered vegetarian bowls for 4 of us and found a piece of meat in one of our bowls. That is just not acceptable. We do not eat meat and this was appalling to find pork/ beef . None of the extras were on our bowls either . The food prep area was very messy, the one in the take out section specifically was messy and I see why there was contamination of meat on my food. Not worth the risk for me ! Check pic below. Hopefully someone will reach out as I am not processing this mess up well.
