This is hands down the WORST Cafe Rio location. If you can, go ANYWHERE ELSE. Especially on the weekends! I’ve held off on leaving this review to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this last visit pushed me over the edge.

The kids working here COULD NOT CARE LESS about you or your order. You can literally see online order receipts constantly spitting out of the printer, yet only one out of the 10 employees standing around is actually doing anything. The rest are chatting, eating, or just shooting the breeze. While customers are lined out the door, waiting an hour past their estimated pickup times.

I had to ask for the dressing they forgot for my salad, and when I got home, I realized they’d also forgotten half the ingredients on it. They gave me flour tortillas when I ordered corn, and the portion size was tiny. Especially compared to the video they post about this salad on this page. Am I supposed to dissect my entire salad and unwrap the foil on the tortillas before I leave the counter just to make sure everything is correct?

We’ve had a similar experience every single time we come to this location. Save your time and your sanity and go somewhere else.

It takes an eternity to pick a phone order, I had to wait for an hour. The employees are very nice, but the designed process is a joke. There were at least 30 people waiting for their orders and tons of orders on the shelves for a long time. There were some people giving up. They should stop receiving orders as delivery is affected and put some frontliners to help back kitchen when they are not much busy. It is clear a management issue, focusing in sales and loosing customers. Look at the other reviews.

I love cafe Rio and will always keep going back but my to go order is almost ALWAYS WRONG here. It’s kind of a joke with my husband of “well let’s see what they gave us today” and I’m usually easy going enough that I’ll eat it anyway, BUT I’m 26 weeks pregnant right now and all I wanted was some queso. I decided to get nachos to fulfill my craving, in the app selected the queso as my cheese option then made the rest of my selections. Just got home and opened my nachos and they did not put a drop of queso on the nachos. They did a little bit of shredded cheese but none of the queso sauce. They also just did black beans when I asked for half and half and did not include grilled fajita veggies. Attached is a picture of my receipt to prove I ordered it correctly, they just simply always make the order wrong. If you can avoid using the app and just ordering in person at this location I highly suggest that.

Let me start by saying I don’t normally leave reviews. This experience was so awful I had to.

We received an email about a 2-for-$20 deal and decided to use it. The email gave almost no details on how to redeem the promotion. After waiting in a long line and ordering our food, we were told it could only be redeemed through the app. The manager was zero help and immediately suggested we go to the back of the massive line and place an online order instead.

Reluctantly, he agreed to have the cashier hold our food while we stepped aside to download the app and try to redeem the reward. Standing there in the restaurant, we attempted to place the order online, but it wouldn’t work. Despite all of that, the manager still refused to honor the promotion and was completely unwilling to make it right. We ended up paying $15 extra for our meal.

To make it worse, they charged us for grilled steak when we ordered sweet pork, which cost more. By that point, the line was so long we didn’t even try to get it fixed.

All the tables were dirty. The food tasted terrible, and the portion sizes were honestly SO bad — barely any pork at all — yet we were charged for beef.

We will never be going back.

Why send out a promotion that even the manager won’t honor? You’d think they would make it right — yeah, right.

I have been eating at this restaurant for years. I get emails with special deal offers and like to take advantage of them from time to time. Tonight I went in for the double meal specials. I ordered 2 salads and other than the 30 minutes I waited in line (which I was willing to do) when it was time to check out they wouldn’t honor the coupon I received yesterday, even though it’s good until next month. They said I needed to have the app which I’ve never needed in the past. The kids at the checkout seemed like good kids, but I asked to speak to the manager who came over to talk to me but I couldn’t understand her as she needed someone to translate being as she apparently didn’t speak a lick of English, which I get. I asked her to honor my coupon and even offered to get the app for next time. She refused and didn’t care if I walked away or not. The salads by themselves were almost $20 more without the chips and queso and drinks offered in the deal. (The whole reason I chose to go there and wait 30 minutes in line for the deal.) I almost left the food and walked out, but after waiting that long I reluctantly paid $60 for 4 salads without any drinks or chips and queso.
I’m so mad I don’t think I’ll ever order food from Cafe Rio again. Very disappointed!

So… how does a place run out of steak? Isn’t that kind of the whole business model? And then no strawberries for the tres leches cake either? At this rate, are we also going to run out of tortillas next?
If you’re actually hungry, maybe pack a snack before coming here. The pace is less “restaurant rush” and more “Sunday afternoon nap.” We stopped because we were in the area, but honestly, we could have driven to Lehi and gotten our food faster.
Speaking of Lehi — that location is how it’s done. Whatever magic they’re using over there, please bottle it up and send it to this store. Maybe even have their manager host a quick “How to Run a Restaurant 101” workshop.
This location has potential, but it needs serious help — starting with whoever’s in charge. Right now, it feels like management is on vacation… during business hours.

I haven’t been to this Cafe Rio in a long time, and after this visit, I’m not sure I’ll be back. The restaurant was noticeably dirty — food was scattered around, mixed in with other items, and the grill had old food stuck to it, yet quesadillas were still being cooked on top of it. They were also out of grilled chicken. On top of that, the mint lemonade machine kept breaking, and when it did work, it only dispensed a small dribble. Overall, extremely disappointing.

Terrible. Just Terrible. I love cafe rio. The food is delicious and i visit frequently. this location tho. terrible. The guy who made my burrito yelled “vector, oh yeah” while making my burrito. so unprofessional he was 20 years old. There was some lady who ordered 15 burritos and the staff messed up ever single one of them multiple times. The lady who was behind her, in front of me had to get her order remade aswell after waiting to pay for a long time. they messed up every single order that was taken there. in such an unprofessional loud careless matter. i wanted a quick burrito and sat there for an hour. My burrito got made 3 different times because the staff kept losing it. By the way, this was a thursday night at 9:30pm with 4 people in line. Everyone behind the counter was stressed and it got to a point where the entire staff was yelling at eachother and running around. so unprofessional i got second hand embarrassment from it. not sure how a restaurant this popular could be this bad. will not be coming back. choosing different location next time. If someone higher up reads this. get your team together

Well I waited 71 minutes past my pickup time only to be told it would be about 45 more minutes. I asked for a refund. Staff was nice but so busy they can’t keep up. They need 5 or 6 more employees. My friend got in line at the same time I was supposed to pick up. An hour later they finally paid for their food.

Cafe Rio – the original — the best. Love getting the two tacos and saw they do an ala carte taco Tuesdays now. Guess I’ll be coming more often! Took a kid out for a quick lunch and it was delicious. The house dressing is absolutely amazing. Love the sweet pork. So much green green lettuce. Fresh and always hot. The tortillas are soooo good.
