We arrived as a group of approximately 30 people. We had previously arranged with management regarding our numbers and time of arrival as well as date. We were sure that everything could be handled without a problem upon our arrival we found out that there was only one waitress assigned to our group and there were no other patrons in the restaurant area. We were told by the waitress that no one else wanted to service our group. We waited well over 45 minutes before our orders were even taken. The waitress then insisted on taking everyone’s order before turning them into the kitchen. When ask why she did not turn in part of them at one time, I was told that “this is the way we do it” they did bring out tuna dip for everyone on the house and once our dinner is arrived after about an hour and a half, the food was amazing! Our waitress did get assistance with beverage service, but the owner/manager definitely needs a course in how to deal with groups appropriately. During our entire time there there was only one other couple who came in to eat dinner. Not sure I would ever come back to this restaurant, just due to the fact of the mindset of the waitress and manager. It’s such a shame as the food was great.

Steak was delicious!!! Came exactly as ordered.
Stunning restaurant
Historic charm
Large size tables available
The owner/chef should be proud.
Staff were bery friendly. Our waitress needed to understand the menu a little better to be able to answer our questions regarding the menu. Could not help with any suggestions either but she was very nice just needs more training and experience.

Walton High Class of 1975 had our 50th year class reunion on September 20, 2025 at Cafe Nola. The venue is beautiful. Chef Ernie and his staff/servers were so polite and helpful with setting the venue the way we wanted it. The food was absolutely delicious. Our class had a wonderful evening of reconnecting with our classmates. Thank you so much to Chef Ernie and his crew!

I recently visited Cafe NOLA at 400 E Nelson Ave, in Defuniak Springs, FL. I had a great meal and drink while I sat at the bar being served by a lady I believe her name was Jasper. She was great in providing great service and light conversation. I then met the chef who came out and gave me a sample of his beignets which were delicious. A great place to go

My appetizer and entree were absolutely delicious. But both were barely even warm when they came out so that I didn’t like. I would not order the beignets again. They were overcooked and practically burnt. Service and atmosphere were great. The portions were huge so the price was well worth the money. definitely want to come back I will just ask for my food to be hot if it’s not again.

A surprising find on our way to the Florida Caverns campground. We were really looking for a diner, but we were hungry. We both had a really good chicken sandwich withlettuce and pickles. Not fried, but grilled and not dry. My husband’s fries were delicious and I had fresh green beans which were perfect. Very happy we stopped.

I had the Boudin eggrolls a cup of seafood gumbo and luckily I’m here on Friday so I was able to get the red beans and rice with a catfish fillet. Apparently it’s the special they only do Monday and Friday. Lucky me it being Friday. The servers were very nice and courteous atmosphere clean and very New Orleans themed
The food was very flavorful definitely Cajun spice, but not overly spicy the food came out prompt and hot. The catfish was not rubbery so more than likely fresh not frozen. Portions are very generous. The price is about what you’d expect in 2025.
I had sweet tea with a couple lemons to drink, and the tea was perfect, not overly steeped and not overly sweetened

All in all would recommend and will definitely return

This place is fabulous! We stopped in for lunch and everything from start to finish was perfect! Our group ordered the gumbo, red beans and rice, shrimp po boy and took the beignets to go! Will definitely make a special trip to visit again!

Great food for my wife who had the blackened shrimp Po-boy. I was looking for a great vegan option and settled for a good house salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing. My wife also indicated that the sweet potato fries were also great. Service was good. Atmosphere was really great. Bathroom was functional except for the hand dryer. No paper towels as an option for drying (which is ok unless the dryer doesn’t work).
