The experience altogether was beautiful and romantic! I think everyone should do it at least once in their lives.
The food wasn’t fantastic, but it was good.
The staff was very nice!
The parking was crammed.
One side of the train has the sunset.
Apparently, you might be seated with another couple and the seats aren’t spacious enough for two people elbow room. Luckily, my husband and I had our own booth, so we didn’t have to deal with that.
The atmosphere is nice the way the set up the table with the flowers and candle and play the classy music.

This was a really nice experience and the food was delicious. I gave it 4 stars because I was expecting it to have some scenic views but it did not. We did cross a few bridges where you could see water below but other than that it ran parallel to the highway, we saw a junk yard, a golf course/country club, the back of people’s yards, and rock faces. There is free parking. We boarded at 4:15pm and left at 5pm. The train goes forward and then in reverse, no loop. Again the food was delicious and the staff was very polite and prompt.

Yummmm!! I’ll be dreaming about the maple pumpkin bisque for days!! The butternut squash ravioli with asparagus and mashed potatoes was perfect for autumn. The roll was divine and the butter clearly handmade. The salad was refreshing and the maple vinaigrette, mmmm, good! For my birthday they even put a candle in my chocolate mousse dessert and the whole car sang to me. we sat in the dome. The roof was low, okay for the riders but looked harder for the servers. All three cars were super cute! Time period decor, great servers, and wonderful food. The scenery was gorgeous. I wasn’t by the window but kept snapping pics. It was raining but it was a great contrast to the changing leaves. Loved it! I’m recommending this to everyone I meet!! Perfect addition to our girls trip

This experience is a must if you’re a fan of delicious food and the beautiful NH scenery. The staff here does an excellent job and accommodates most food allergies (make sure to mention any in the reservation). A 2 hour train ride in a 1950s dining car takes you back in time. 5 courses, all delicious, and a wide drink selection makes for an incredible evening on the rails. Thank you to the staff who served us and made us smile. We look forward to the next time.

We have been on other dinner trains over the years. We thoroughly enjoyed the ride and the food was delicious. The portions (sm/med) are just right for this type of venue. Our server was very sweet and attentive. We chose to sit up in the dome car. But I honestly think the window sizes and a clearer view was better on the main floor. However, the trade off was the cushy comfy seats in the dome area.

We sat in the Dome car. I was comfortable, but very noisy din of all the people with Jazz music the whole time, so if you’re sensitive to noise, consider that. The rolls are amazing with cute whipped butter, but each person should get their own butter (by the size of it) without having to ask. That being said, service was very attentive and accommodating. Salad was lovely with fresh fruit. I enjoyed the appetizers, my daughter and I each got a different one and split it so we could try two. The chicken and pork entrée were good. They actually cooked the asparagus perfectly! All the entrée came with it and mashed potatoes. The only complaint was that they served my husband’s salmon entrée with skin on, and it wasn’t seared, so it was slimy. Dessert that day was a nice chocolate moose and an offer of coffee.

Bus tour took us here for dinner. Food was great but mixed drinks were terrible- need a better mixologist. Not worth the money for them and they tacked on a 20% tip which was most certainly not deserved

Their servers were great – quick and efficient and very accommodating. The scenery was lovely, much of the foliage had autumn hues. There were several really nice scenic spots with large creeks and so forth. We had the maple pumpkin bisque to start with which was delicious, Then we had a salad which was just okay, I’m not sure of what kind of dressing it had but there wasn’t much on it and the salad was kind of dry and tasteless. I had the citrus dill salmon that came with mashed potatoes and diced squash or pumpkin. It was very good – the salmon was delicious and cooked properly. For dessert we were served chocolate mousse and coffee which were both good.

Cafe Lafayette’s Dinner Train is such a special experience… absolutely loved every moment of it. It’s a fantastic choice for a date night or anniversary – or just a fun get together with the family or friends. You reserve online and once you arrive in person, you’re issued a boarding pass that you can keep, boarding starts sharply at the listed time and you are boarded by order of which group and table you’re assigned.
Food is five courses – a roll, appetizer, salad, sorbet, entree, and dessert. The menu is changed seasonally, this time around we were treated to a menu that included beef wellington!
The kitchen cooks everything while you’re underway and does it phenomenally fast, and well. The serving staff here are attentive and more than ready to help as much as they’re able. Everything is included in the $99/$129 per person fee, save for gratuity and any drinks you might grab while underway. There’s a drink menu that outlines prices for almost everything – soft drinks are available for $3/glass. While underway the train plays gentle jazz music, and the lights are kept moderately low. There’s also a bathroom on I believe each train car, the one in the dome car features a window, full sink and amenities for freshening up, and is located centrally in the car.
The train gets underway with a locomotive from the Granite State Scenic Railway that’s attached just after you’ve boarded, and the entire train travels at around 5mph or so for the round trip, meaning you have plenty of time to view the scenery while you enjoy your meal.
At the end – there’s the Depot, which is open off season as a Tapas restaurant, that features period/theme accurate decor, and small gift items, mugs, train whistles, and the sort – as well as a non-lego brick set that’s of the dome car, the Granite Eagle. Everything here is a delightful addition to the experience – and I can’t recommend this enough. If you love trains, if you love seeing nature in a unique way, and if you love delightful dining experiences – all of these are reasons to go!
