When we went in at lunchtime, there were several tables, some business people, some local workers, some individuals and couples. Not overly crowded. But we’re 10 days out from SnowMageddon so a lot of people still aren’t coming out because parking is tight.
I am quite a soup snob. Finding decent soup is really tough in Pittsburgh. But I’ve been drooling over their menus and hot sausage chowder just called out to me. Truly, I think I heard the angels singing as they brought me a bowl. It was chock full of Italian sausage and vegetables. You’re gonna swear it was cheesy, but I don’t think it was. It was just really good. And I did something that you can’t do in do in a lot of restaurants. I asked our server for a little bit of bread to go with it. I didn’t want a sandwich. I just wanted some bread and they were glad to bring me bread. One slice of Italian and one slice of marble rye. You’re not getting that anywhere else
My hubs asked for a hot sausage hoagie. But it appears that all the hot sausage that they had went into the soup so he had to pick something else and went with a chicken sandwich with fries. As you can see, it was served on a Mancini roll. The chicken breast was covered in red and green peppers and onions, all sautéed, but still with bite to them. And melted cheese on top. It was a substantial sandwich but he made fast work of it. And the fries reminded him of the homemade fries of his youth. That is reason enough to stop by.
Diners don’t just need your support, they deserve your support. A good diner? The food is fresh. When they run out, they run out. But you know what you’re getting is fresh and tasty. They know their customers. They know their food. And you can still find the owner working behind the counter at lunchtime
We will be back. There’s more soup to try and my husband‘s still hankering for that hot sausage hoagie. I see a breakfast in our future. And that dog friendly patio is on our list!!!
I cannot wait to come here for a nice sandwich or the delicious sounding eggs Benedict. Again, I strongly recommend as a nice weekend breakfast spot.
The waitress seemed more distracted by a child and possibly a significant other. I ate quickly and left.
