I was a little hesitant on going as it was tied to a museum but when we arrived it made more sense and I was glad we went. The further we made our way to the veranda dining area, the more we were in awe.
The seating was spacious, and every table had amazing, water, and waterfowl views. It was peaceful and pretty.
When we were done we meandered around the gardens and property which were relaxing and pretty.
Overall, a great time. Service, to food, to setting, and satisfaction. If you’re looking for a good place to eat and are in the area on a nice day, stop in. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
The food was aesthetically presented, frequently with flowers. I liked the whipped lemon ricotta appetizer and the lemon mousse dessert, which was light and sweet with the exact right amount of lemon zing.
I would definitely recommend this café if you plan on visiting the museum or if you’re looking for a pretty spot for a pleasant date; it’s a nice place to leisurely while away a few hours on a free day.
We stopped by the Florence Griswold museum on a nearly perfect Autumn day and were delighted by the food, atmosphere, and service at Cafe Flo.
The cafe is seasonal with outdoor seating overlooking a bend in a gentle river that meanders by. The picture perfect views complement the experience.
Note: it can get breezy and be a bit cooler in the shade of the porch, so dress accordingly.
The menu and specials board presented the challenge of having to choose among several great options.
Choose we did, I opted for the beet and goat cheese salad, which was fresh and flavorful. My spouse order the mushroom bisque, having been inspired by the mushrooms of the Wee Faerie Villages (An annual autumn event at the “FloGris”).
Both dishes were fresh and flavorful.
For dessert we enjoyed the apple crisp pie, which we found to be done just right – fresh, subtly spiced, and not overly sweet.
In addition to the season food specials, several beverage specials were available as well, including alcoholic and nonalcoholic option.
Cafe Flo is worth a visit, whether you are visiting the art galleries/museum or not.
The view and atmosphere is excellent quiet and calm.
Food is delicious.
Food was fresh and delicious, and of course you can not beat the view of the river. Our only suggestion is to add some background music on the patio, as it would add to the beautiful setting. We look forward to returning next year when we are in the area.
