Café Butter Chicken: Authentic Indian Flavors in Sturgis
Reviews
I do hope they put some more effort into the decor and atmosphere in the near future. For such great food, place is a bit murky and a bit behind on cleanliness.
We were greeted by the owners son and immediately started. The menu had a good number of adjectives with most flavors available in chicken, lamb, goat, and shrimp. They also have vegetarian selections too.
For an appetizer we got their fried and seasoned potato slices. Nice crispy outside with a dusting of Indian spices. Included was two dipping sauces; a mint creme and a sweet bbq style.
Next we received their cheesy Naan. The flat bread had a nice thin crust on it with melted cheese. The inside was a pillowy sodtc texture that seemed to melt in your mouth. Hot and fresh with a wondrous bread smell.
Main course was their namesake, butter chicken in a light tomato cream sauce. We asked for medium spicy which to me did not seem that spicy so next time we will try it spicier.
We also tried another chicken dish in a light white cream sauce mixed with nuts. I don’t remember the name of it but it was a nice mild flavor perfect for those that don’t do spice at all.
Both main dishes were served with a bowl of rice.
The owner then gave each of us a fried dessert. It was a ball of dough fried and seasoned with some sweet spices and then covered with a delicious honey glaze.
My only disappointment was that they were out of both the goat and lamb. Talking to the owner he said that they were much busier than they expected the past few days, which I understand and told him it just gives us another reason to come back.
Overall I was impressed. Friendly staff, quick service, and wonderful food. The table are fairly small though and the table top gets filled fast with the various dishes.
Try their Mango Lassi, which is a traditional yogurt drink.
We will definitely go back.
We did the buffet. To our delight, everything was amazing! My favorites were the namesake Butter Chicken, Goat Curry, and that one veggie mix, i can’t remember what it was called but it was very good! And that dessert, I think it was Galut Jumon was so good, like an amazing little pancake ball! We will definitely return
Something I do is I will call someone Stanny, there’s a story behind. I called the waiter Stanny a couple times and he seemed to appreciate it. So we’re about to leave and he says “Thank you Stanny!” That was hilarious, I’ve never had anyone else at a restaurant say that before He was also very funny in general too, we need more of him in the restaurant business!
