We were from out of town in Brandon for an event and our son wanted Mexican food before we headed back home, google showed this to be a well liked place so we found our way. This is what I would consider a hole in the wall place, which I usually always enjoy finding such places. At night it’s not lit at all around the place, and it’s a smaller aged building. Had second thoughts but from what I could see through the windows it looked fine inside so we went in.
We were promptly greeted by the waitress and she quickly had our drinks and chips and salsa to our table and ready to take our order.
I always choose a dish with a steak product and was disappointed there was no steak options such as steak nachos, steak burritos, etc. She said they had shredded beef, I was confused but ordered a shredded beef burrito as I’m not a fan of ground beef plates and didn’t want chicken this time either.
My wife ordered 3 hard beef tacos.
My son got a chicken cheese and rice plate from the kids menu, but was portioned as big as an adult serving.
The salsa was fresh tasting , chunky like store bought, and almost to much of a heat kick than we were used to back home, but I still say it was good.
My burrito arrived and I realized shredded beef is Beef Roast meat. Which was okay and I really did enjoy it, the cheese dip that covered it was great as well.
My wife enjoyed here tacos and I ended up eating her last one, it was good, but I felt the ground beef could have been seasoned, which is why I usually just don’t order ground beef plates anywhere, this is my typical experience we go, so I don’t fault the restaurant for this, my wife enjoyed them.
My son only ate two bites of his dish, claiming it was too spicy. I think it was more he isn’t a fan of shredded chicken, I ate his left over for lunch the next day and I thought it was quite good myself and didn’t notice much spice.
So final thoughts, I enjoyed my meal, the service was on point, $42 for 3 people with what we ordered I felt was a tad high, but nothing is cheap anymore. I don’t expect to return personally for the simple fact there is no fajita steak options and those are my preferred dish. But for those that like local places, shredded or ground meat dishes, it’s worth stopping in, the food is good.

This place is more of a dive than a restaurant I would say. It’s family owned from my understanding and has been here for many years. Our food was hot and fresh and the rice actually had flavor. I note that because at most Mexican restaurants the rice is very bland. I had the four tamale plate and my wife had the three tacos plate. Both came with rice and refried beans. If you’re in the area and looking for a big meal in a small down home place then this is the place to go.

Been going since 93. Best authentic Mexican restaurant/ food around. Its a dive, but if you want good food and service at a good price. This is the place. You won’t leave hungry. That is for sure.

They should never have reopened if this is how they plan to serve customers. Food was disgusting! Burnt chihuahua tacos full of grease that tasted like it was months old. Rice was ice cold, lumpy & tasted sour. Beans were runny & tasteless. Brown, wilted lettuce in the salad. Will never return. Recommend no one else waste their time & money there.

Great improvement since my last review. Portion size and quality of food were awesome! I had the Pitorrito. Salsa was just right. Not burning me to death this time and the guacamole was fresh an oh so delicious! Great service! Definitely deserving of a five-star rating once again

Tonight was my first time to eat at Azteca, and will definitely not be my last.
The chicken fajitas were excellent, my wife had the shrimp fajitas.
The service was great, friendly, and the menu made it hard to deside what to get.
I am a big eater, and for the first time in many, many yeas I not been able to eat all of the food on my plate.
They are definitely a hidden gem in Brandon, MS!
My next visit I am going for the tamales.
Yes you should try it, don’t let the outside deter you.
They are definitely better than all of the chain Mexican restaurant’s put together.
I see many LEO’S cars there at lunch.
That was my first tip about the food.

My co-workers and I finally tried Azteca for the first time today. I’ve always been told it was a great “hole in the wall” restaurant. From the outside the appearance seems shady lol but on the inside it’s clean and if you stay hot like I do the AC works great. It is a small place so there’s only a few booths/tables and there’s one mounted tv on the wall. I ordered enchiladas which came with rice and beans. The food was very tasty and definitely hot and fresh. The chips and salsa were awesome. The chips were well seasoned, thin, and crispy. The salsa was tasty and chunky not just tomato sauce. Definitely recommend Azteca if you’re looking for a good, fresh, local meal!

Even though I’ve been eating there for over 18 yrs I’ve noticed the salsa is extremely hotter and I can’t tolerate that intense heat, and No, there’s no other option unless you want to pay $6.95 up for a small bowl of that not good for your health fake cheese dip or avocado dip, which Unfortunately, they’re always out! The prices are higher and the portions are drastically smaller! Seriously Junior, I’m so disappointed in My little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. My recent visit had only one server which is normal and she tried her best to accommodate my needs with placing a to-go order. When I got home we were all shocked to find what we had was so significantly and I do stress the significantly, less than normal size and the quality of flavor of the meals were no longer as tasty as they used to be! My dinners were all dried out and we each only ate half of our small meals and threw them out into the garbage. This has happened too many times! What a waste of $60 Shame on Azteca for changing everything we have grown to love! I’ll go elsewhere from now on. You’ve lost loyal customers! I’ll NEVER recommend Azteca again….

Yuck! This place is disgusting. Smells like poo poo. The food looks like it comes from a can and has sat out for long periods of time. I took some home in a to-go box and a day or so later it was repulsive and I threw it all away.
The chips and salsa are good, but that’s the only thing. The atmosphere turns me off just like the food. The waitress I had was nice and the service was good but still this place overall sucks. I’m surprised Azteca is still in business.

When you go to Azteca, you go for the really good food. The atmosphere has been the same for decades, but don’t be put off. Seat your self then enjoy tortilla chips served warm tossed with yummy chili-salt seasoning and large portions of fresh salsa. Their chicken enchiladas, my favorite dish, are made with a sour cream sauce and loads of Monterey Jack cheese. The beans and rice are the best in town!
