GOOD FUN! GOOD FOOD! GOOD BEER! Featherbowling, steamed mussels, more than a dozen beers from Belgium… at the Cadieux Cafe, as the bumper sticker on the wall says, “It’s Beautiful To Be Belgian.” Since its days as a Prohibition-era speakeasy, the Cadieux Cafe has been a social hub for Metro Detroit’s Belgian population. Flemish culture flourishes at the Cadieux, which is or has been the unofficial headquarters for an array of clubs promoting pastimes from across the pond, including pigeon racing, archery, bicycling, darts and, of course, feather bowling. The Michigan Traditional Arts Program awarded the Cadieux the Michigan Heritage Award for “continuing family and community cultural traditions with excellence and authenticity.”

Family-run Belgian spot in a former speakeasy known for mussels, beer, feather bowling & live music.

Excitement. What a fantastic and fun place. Live music, incredible food choices, awesome beer selection and the most unique bar game in Detroit. At the Cadieux Cafe Belgium Rules! Belgian food, beer and feather bowling. Go all in, order mussels, drink some geuze and bowl like a Belgian! If you are there when live music is playing, get ready for some crazy times. The usual incredible service might slow down a bit cuz it’s crazy times, but they take care of you. I think my favorite thing was the Monday night all you can eat mussels!

We had a great time at Cadieux Café … we popped in to check out the feather bowling, which was completely a blast to watch. We have Bocce where we are from, but have never heard of feather bowling… What a hoot! Would love to see this in Erie,PA. While we were there, we were surprised with a phenomenal band called Marshall Morlock from Key West. Their music was great & dad and son’s personalities were electric. We’ve never been to Detroit before and we’re so pleasantly welcome by the bartender, bowlers and the guests. Unfortunately, they were out of the rabbit and Belgian stew… But the clams were yummy. Thanks everyone for a wonderful welcome to Detroit!

Came on a Tuesday and there was barely anyone there. Ordered clam chowder soup which was really good, & got the pretzels and cheese which was terrible- the pretzels were way overcooked & the cheese was cold & had a weird after taste. $10 for 3 pretzels is crazy to me. Didn’t order anything after that because it just turned me off. Wanted to try this place out but wouldn’t come back.

The food:
I’d like to give an assessment but I’m still waiting for it food never came, waitress keep getting no answers and kitchen wouldn’t prepare it, they were so understaffed at the kitchen, we waited for 2 hours and no entrees were served. The one and only thing it was brought were some pretzel sticks which were delicious (but we were so hungry that we could’ve been biased ‍♂️)

The gaming area:
The feather bowling is very interesting, I’d never played until that time and overall from my visit I’d say this was the highlight … Beware that the gaming court is filled with dirt so AVOID bringing white (or clear) shoes

The yard:
The yard or outside seating area is great, but also the weather was so nice when I was there. During the weekends they have some bands playing so be aware that a cover would and most likely be charged just for seating outside and listening. I think that partially because of this they were over crowded and the kitchen couldn’t keep up with orders, unfortunately I was one of the affected ones.

Cozy, warm atmosphere. Not sterile and modern like so many places. It looks pretty much as it did 50-60 years ago. Friendly staff and great eats. I had the beef tips. Yum!

Mussels and Brussels!!! I hadn’t been here since 2014. So glad I came back. I was with co-workers hanging out after work. The brussel sprouts were so good. Feather bowling is super fun! Onion rings were tasty too.

Cool spot serving Belgian beers and bites. The all you can eat mussels is a great deal. Feather bowling looks fun even though we didn’t partake. The open mic jam session was great.
