This is the best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to. Everything was so fresh and everything was absolutley delicious. Im pushing 50 years old and I can easily say, this is the best. Right down to the black beans and rice. So many Mexican joints treat beans and rice like filler food to food to level out the plate, not Cactus Flower. Even the black beans and rice was delicious.
We hade the flautas and chili con queso for appetizers (5stars), for lunch I had Steak Mexicanos and holy smokes, NY strip cooked med well perfectly, charred perfectly, smothered with green chili from the heavens and thin sliced fried potatoes (5stars).
My wife had pork carnitas and every element was perfect. Bright fresh charred chili’s, perfect pork, delicious grill marked tortillas….I can’t say enough good.
Amanda was our server and she topped off a perfect experience with wonderful and friendly service. While we waited the perfect amount of time for fresh delicious food we noticed her waiting on tables with many elderly folks and she was so sweet and nice to them and even knew a few by their first names but always started with a respectful “Ms or Mr”. Delightful environment, no wait to be seated. Even the host was very inviting and warm. I’ll be back far more than I should!

I have eaten Mexican food for over 50 years, mostly in Arizona, and found that the Cactus Flower ranks among the very best. Some of the disappointed reviewers remarked that the food was not to their liking, yet their photos showed that they ate almost every bite of the huge number of meals they purchased in one setting. Such sad folks.

My waitress was extremely helpful and friendly, the large main room had plenty of ambiance and wonderful high ceilings, and my booth was comfortable.

My order came exactly as I had hoped and the flavor and taste surpassed my expectations. I judge, yes that’s right, a Mexican restaurant’s food by the frijoles and hot sauce. That’s all I need to let me know how the rest of the food will compare to other Mexican restaurants. Cactus Flower’s refried beans were awesome and the hot sauce spicy yet not too hot. I would only ask that they use little or no sugar in their hot sauce and they would discover customers who loved it even more.

I stay at a nearby hotel, the Best Western, where the front desk suggested this restaurant when I asked for any nearby, excellent places to eat. They made my day with their recommendation and Cactus Flower did the rest. Bravo.

I do see now why more than half the dishes were enchiladas. Nothing else seems right. Service was ok but the food was not that great. Try to avoid the tacos as they are flavorless (Del Taco has them beat here). The enchiladas did have a decent flavor and the rice and beans were just ok.

Update: January 2026 We went back because the food is great. This time the service was way better. The server filled our drinks and was attentive. As usual, the food is amazing. I recommend the chicken tacos on white, the seafood enchiladas, the tamal and just about anything else.
The food is very good here however the service is terrible and only seems to get worse each time. Unfortunately, because the service is so horrible we won’t go back. My combo was supposed to have Christmas chili but came with a side of red. Server said green was already on but it was not. Drinks were not refilled either. It really is a shame because the food is great.

Absolutely delicious Pueblo style Mexican food! The best in the city. I got the pork and avocado burritos smothered with Xtra hot Pueblo chile! Margaritas are to die for. Fried ice cream and churro donuts are TOP NOTCH! Love this place

Good local Mexican Cantina. It was very busy, but after putting in our name we were seated quickly and the server was polite and efficient. The food was fresh and had good flavor. The taco shells were great and fresh made. There was an odd flavor to the salsa (oregano) so it wasn’t my favorite. Clean, comfortable, good service and fresh hot food.

Unfortunately this is just another example of a popular Pueblo restaurant with poor quality food, poor service and an outdated atmosphere. The Spanish rice was gritty and the beans were dry and thick and tasted like they were from a can. The green chili was decent but not worthy of an award. The fact that they only serve one tiny bowl of chips for two people at a table and charged $3.50 for another bowl is highway robbery. What’s even more comical is they put the salsa bowl inside the bowl of stale lukewarm chips so it’s not even an actual bowl of chips like at other popular Mexican restaurants in town that provide unlimited freshly made, hot chips. At around 50 years old, we are the youngest people in the restaurant. The most shocking was the $6 lemonade with $2 refills. On top of that they charge a surcharge on the bill for paying with a credit card. Never ever ever again.

Amanda was our server and she did a great job of recommending dishes when I couldn’t decide. Everything was so flavorful! We were very pleased with everything from the chips and salsa to our entrees. Glad we took a chance!

The burrito was monstrous in size! Others at our table of six ordered burritos, chimichangas and flautas. All of the food was excellent. The waitress was personable and attentive. The drinks were a little more expensive than at a restaurant in Pueblo West where we frequently enjoy Mexican cuisine. We were very surprised to be charged for refills of chips and salsa, and a side order of sour cream. We were also surprised to be charged $5.86 for using a credit card. We dined here because it was convenient for others in our party who live in Pueblo, but we probably won’t return because the silly extra charges were annoying and resulted in “no additional tip” on top of the 18% gratuity already charged for a large group. We normally tip much more generously than 18%, but the extra charges detracted from the pleasure of dining there.

A Hidden Gem for Mexican-American Fare

Cactus Flower is a great, locally owned restaurant offering full table service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive, making for an enjoyable dining experience from start to finish.

I ordered the enchiladas, which were flavorful and well-prepared. The menu described them as “smothered” in green chile, and while the sauce was tasty, I found the portion of green chile to be more modest compared to other local spots. If you’re someone who loves a generous helping of chile, you might notice the difference.

One thing to note: the tortilla chips are not complimentary or unlimited, which is something to keep in mind if you’re used to bottomless chips and salsa at similar restaurants.

That said, the quality of the food, inviting ambiance, and attentive service make Cactus Flower a great place to dine. I’m looking forward to returning and trying more dishes from the menu.
