This is a great BBQ and fish place that serves hush puppies! I order my fish to be battered in the shrimp batter and it is better for me, and excellent.!
Speaking of Shrimp, I wish Mike would allow you to add shrimp to your existing meal instead of having to purchase a shrimp meal. Add 5 shrimp to your meal for 10 bucks, for example.
The feedback I have is to bake some cornbread, its so easy and cheap to do. Get a package of cornbread mix and add a cream of corn and serve this instead of the bread slices.
The prices are also a tad high especially for the size of the sides.

CJ’s has a bit of local lore behind it but for me the food can be a hit or miss. On a good day. The ribs are tender and full of flavor. On an off day they can be surprisingly tough and hard to chew. It might have been because I ordered them “no sauce” that time. Hard to say. they offer two sauce options, sweet and spicy. The sweet sauce is very sweet. Almost to the point of distraction. I can’t speak for the spicy version. Not really my thing. The sides unfortunately were a bit of a disappointment. The yam came as a dense puree of sweet potato brown sugar and enough saturated fat such that if I stuck a wick in it and left it in the fridge overnight you’ld probably have a candle by morning. We have not tried their fish but my neighbor used to rave about the fried catfish. He said it reminded him of his childhood which is high praise.
As for atmosphere, it has that classic old school urban storefront vibe – part authentic neighborhood spot part shoestring operation. There are a handful of tables, but most people seem to be coming in for takeout. The TV monitor above the counter plays mostly for the cooks entertainment while he works. Colorful flyers for touring gospel singers are taped to the plexiglass ordering window, adding a bit of personality to an otherwise utilitarian setup.

Stopped by this restaurant for lunch. It was good but I’ve had better. At least the service was good and the dining area was clean. CASH is the preferred form of payment. There is an ATM in the establishment or one can retrieve cash at the 7-11 across the street.

What a hidden gem! We noticed the sign while entering the Travis AFB gate. Did a u-turn and headed straight there. The ribs are amazing! The folks running the place are some of the friendliest people; they’re proud of what they are selling (and they should be). The BBQ ribs and brisket are incredible. I also ordered the fried catfish nuggets. The BBQ was much better so I ended up eating half of my husband’s food. Which was fine, because the portion sizes of meat are plenty. We also enjoyed the macaroni salad. We’ll definitely be back!!

Ordered to-go so can’t speak on the service or atmosphere, but the food was very bad. I got the fried snapper and fries. Fries were undercooked and soggy, which is forgivable imo, but the fish was rubbery and had an awful texture, and it tasted OLD. I’m not even convinced it was actually snapper. More like a fishy tasting mystery meat.

I recently visited CJ’S and I can’t say enough good things about my experience! The customer service was absolutely top-notch—every staff member was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about making our visit enjoyable.
The BBQ itself was out of this world! Food had so much flavor, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The smoked meats were perfectly cooked.. I especially loved the ribs.. so good
The atmosphere was laid-back and inviting ..I also appreciated the great selection of sides and sauces that complemented the main dishes perfectly.
All in all, CJ’S is a must-visit for BBQ lovers. I can’t wait to go back for another delicious meal. Highly recommend!

Mediocre !!! The chicken taste old the sauce is way to sweet . They said $5 extra for baked Mac which is ridiculous because the noodles where extremely soggy because it was over cooked and had no flavor a waste of money .

The ribs are definitely a hit! Sauce is perfect, meat easy to eat (not fall off the bone) but that’s okay. I just didn’t like the portion sizes of my sides, they’re really small. And also, I could tell the cornbread was made the day before. But other than that, everything is good
