Stumbled on this place on our way back from the beach yesterday. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The ladies working were very friendly. The apple pies and biscuits were so good we even took some home with us. This will definitely be our regular stop anytime we are in that area.

There are two ways to review this place.
First, is the experience we had when we first arrived. Our first time here, the menu was very confusing and there were items listed all over on paper. We ordered a simple meal and asked a few questions to get a better understanding of what kind of gravy was used. The lady, who I thought at first was the manager, was being very rude with her mouth. She was getting our food together and talking about how confused we were about our order. We ignored her first few rude comments and continued to the cashier. The cashier was charging us for our items and the lady mouthed off again about how confused we were. What ???. Very rude. We decided to leave and not get anything from this place. I want to throw out there a few concerns… First off, it’s not so much the food of a restaurant that makes a place great. It is the customer service, the overall feeling of feeling welcome and invited into their place of business. The atmosphere and cleanliness is a huge impact of an overall great experience, but clearly the customer service a person receives is one of the most important concepts when growing a business. Patient satisfaction is always number one priority. If people want to work just to be rude and crude to people, then just stay home or work somewhere else.
Secondly, our experience as we were leaving was completely different. Ms. Teresa met us outside with utmost respect and apologetic attitude. She apologized on behalf of the rude lady serving the food line, she welcomed us to come back in and be personally served by her, she also offered to still bring us food and handle the payment. She went out of her way to meet us where we was in the moment and make a way to bring back good customer service. Because of Teresa we may come back and eat here again. I hope the other employees witnessed what a difference it makes to treat people with respect. Thanks Teresa for making things right and following up with us. Your doing an amazing job! The food she gave us was pretty good too, but like I said before the food is not the only thing that brings people into a place of business. Thanks again.

Byrds is a locally owned restaurant. The locals consider this one of many favorite restaurants in Kinston Nc. Excellent food serviced in a cafeteria style restaurant. Friendly staff. Don’t let the looks of the restaurant fool you….

There aren’t a lot of restaurant options in Kinston, but Byrd’s seems to be thriving. It was too early for lunch so I decided on Byrd’s, well, since it was open. The parking lot was packed and their sign read: Home of the Million Dollar Biscuit. Man oh man, yes, this biscuit was like no other biscuit I have ever eaten. It was 80% biscuit and 20% roll, giving it a biscuit, bready, yeast roll texture. It was fantastic. The girl on the line working told me she preferred link sausage, so I ordered link sausage, mustard and hot sauce. Amazeballs. I will always plan my drives to involve biscuit time any time I am around the area and you should too.

Great food. Personable staff. Reasonable. The soft country ham is the best!!!! A hot cheese biscuit is a winner. Usually have breakfast but lunch meals are great, too.

The staff is great and so is the food. I always get top-notch service when I’m here. The atmosphere is pretty laid back, you have intimate breakfast-date couples and local citymen. Tip: they have the absolute BEST grits, ever.

When I first arrove here I went to the counter and asked if I could watch a video, warm up and if they had any vegetarian food. At first the owner said no we really don’t have anything like that, then said well maybe at like 1:00 or something after the lunch shift we’ll have some vegetarian food. Then as I sat at the table and watch the video she had thought of several different things which are vegetarian friendly and I realized that, unlike some other places, she actually put effort into thinking about what is vegetarian friendly which some people don’t have the open-mindedness or flexibility of mind about. And she even thought about things which have meat flavoring. So I watch a religious video, eat my food and then thank her. We can be vegetarian even in small rural towns with just a little bit of effort and understanding!
The vegetarian food they have is tasty, the southern charm quite comfortable.
