We stopped in after a basketball game. We were able to sit right down around 730. My wife had the chicken salad croissant which she enjoyed. I had the Bistro tenderloin, mixed veggies, and crispy potatoes, with a side salad. I enjoyed mine but the steak was a little tuff I have to admit. We had the fried pickles for an appetizer and the key lime pie for desert. The desert was top notch. It was light and very tasty. It was not tangy at all. I recommend this place and would definitely stop in again.

Went here twice when we visited Staunton. First was for late lunch. We decided to buy multiple shareables (crab dip, quesadillas, spicy shrimps) and some hot toddy (perfect for the snowy day). All of the food that we ordered was very good. I recommend getting these shareables if you’re ever here

We came back the next day for some beer at an odd time. There weren’t a lot of people so we played one round of this new game we bought from town. We appreciate that they allowed us to have a few beer and play a game (we wouldn’t have played, had there been more people of course)

Good food. Good place.

Byers Street Bistro in downtown Staunton is a local favorite with a strong following, and I can see why on the surface. The location is great—right along a charming street with a relaxed indoor space and a dog-friendly outdoor patio. The staff was welcoming, and the service itself was friendly and attentive. They’re doing a good job on that front.

However, for me, the food didn’t quite live up to the hype. I found it average at best—well-presented but lacking in freshness and flavor. Ingredients didn’t feel particularly vibrant, and a few things tasted like they’d been prepped well ahead of time rather than made fresh. Nothing was inedible, but nothing really stood out either. For a place with such a strong reputation, the food felt more like generic pub fare than thoughtfully prepared bistro dishes.

I understand that others may have had better experiences—reviews seem to praise dishes like the pork chops, crab dip, and fried green tomatoes—but my visit didn’t hit those marks. With some tweaks to sourcing, prep, or menu execution, I could see this place rising to meet its ambiance and service.

Final Take
Great location, warm service, and a laid-back vibe—but the food didn’t feel fresh or distinctive enough to make it memorable for me. I’d return for a drink on the patio or to give it another try, but based on this visit, the kitchen still has some work to do to match the setting.

I truly love this place. Its clean and cute atmosphere. Service is always good. Been here several times. Price is reasonable, food comes out quick. Bathrooms are clean. They have outside, bar and 2nd floor seating. I always get the bacon bluecheese fig burger and their balsamic glazed Brussel sprouts.

Looking for good food on a road trip is so hard! So happy I chose this gem!

We got a Prime Rib sandwiches w/ fries, an Italians w/ pasta salad, a Tavern burger w/ fries and a build your own pizza. Everything tasted fantastic!! Food tasted fresh and well seasoned! Saved it on my favorites in case we ever drive through again.

Service was great! Staff was super friendly.

If you’re looking for great food and service, you found the right place.

This was our second time here and both experiences (year apart) were exceptional

The Brussel sprouts are fantastic! But so is everything else we had. The pork chops were tender and flavorful, the pizza was perfect and the meatloaf was delicious.

Our server Winnie had such a great personality and truly added to our dining experience.
Would absolutely recommend Byers Street Bistro

On our road trip, we stopped by Staunton. This was the only restaurant open at that time (2pm). We walked in and were seated right away. Our server (Stephanie, I think) was so kind and helpful.

Everything was delicious, especially the Steakhouse Burger. My parents who only eat Chinese food LOVED the burger (and they usually do not eat them)! It was very juicy and cooked perfectly.

I ordered the BBQ Brisket Melt, which had too much sauce. The brisket, however, was very tender, but the sauce did not do it justice. My side Cole Slaw was very good. The Shrimp Tacos had 3 large pieces of grilled shrimp per taco. Loved the shrimp but not a fan of the actual taco. It was messy to eat and lacked flavor.

Good place to stop by for a casual lunch! There is a lot in front of the restaurant and a parking garage nearby.

Food was good, service was very good, but gave 3 star because I do not like when a restaurant adds an extra charge onto the bill without warning you ahead of time. Better to just increase their prices on the menu so you know what you are really paying. Sneaky. Expect to pay $1.25 more per item than what the price says on the menu. They also added a menu item on that we did not order. I caught that and they took it off but the “local” charge of 7% (on top of the VA sales tax) is most likely bogus.

Great atmosphere, food, and service. Crab Dip and Italian Focaccia (not pictured) were the standouts.
