The food was outstanding from start to finish. The shrimp and grits were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, and the rigatoni mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and incredibly satisfying. To top it all off, the caramel bread pudding was phenomenal It was easily one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time.
Service truly elevated the experience as well. Our server, Tina, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely kind and considerate throughout the meal. She made excellent recommendations and ensured everything was perfect from beginning to end.
Overall, By George delivers incredible food, beautiful ambiance, and top-tier service. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone dining in downtown Atlanta.
We ordered the French toast with peaches, which leaned more toward slices of wonder bread with only a hint of peach flavor. The standout was the single-serve real Vermont maple syrup, which definitely helped.
I had tea, and it felt worth the price — it was loose leaf, not bagged, and generous enough to serve more than one person.
My mom ordered eggs with potatoes and bacon and really enjoyed it; everything was cooked exactly to her liking.
My husband had the vegetable omelette with potatoes. It was fine, but the overall experience felt very corporate and somewhat overpriced — not surprising given the location and the fact that not much is open on Christmas morning.
Service started off strong. Our original server was wonderful but had to leave for Christmas Mass, which was completely understandable. Unfortunately, the gentleman who took over never checked on our table. My mom eventually waved to another server (which I hate doing), and I was close to getting up myself to ask for help. Thankfully, the server who stepped in was exceptionally kind and attentive, which helped recover the moment.
Overall, the staff was pleasant and the room nicely decorated, but the food and service were uneven for the price.
The service was amateur (wine spilled from the bottle, forgot who had ordered what, took forever) but friendly. Perhaps it was a different crew for the holiday.
I would recommend the skirt steak and the rigatoni (the mix of meats for the ragu was exceptional). Would not recommend the desserts (they were big but bland, quantity over quality).
I started with the Candler Salad, and it was a standout. The crisp greens, candied walnuts, and juicy pear slices made it fresh and flavorful without feeling heavy. For my main, I went with the pan-seared salmon, cooked perfectly with a crisp skin and tender center. Pairing it with a version of the salad made the meal feel light but satisfying.
The real surprise was dessert: the carrot cake. Dense, moist, and not overly sweet, it struck the perfect balance. If I had to nitpick, the texture was slightly uneven—but honestly, it was still one of the best I’ve had.
Service was excellent—attentive without being overbearing—and the atmosphere makes the whole experience feel special. Overall, this is a spot where history, flavor, and great service all come together. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable meal in the city.
The front of the house staff was super cordial, took my phone number, and I was called/seated within the stated amount of wait time.
Rodney was my server; he had great food suggestions, gave prompt service, and was overall delightful with a beautiful smile!
It was a Thursday morning, and I chose the shrimp and grits. All I have to say is OMG….
The bed of grits were silly smooth, dripping with a decadent creole cream sauce. Atop the grits: Heirloom cherry tomatoes that literally melted in my mouth while they were bursting with flavor, alongside Andouille sausage with just the right level of heat and spice….
The co-star of the dish (along with the grits) were three Jumbo Shrimp, intentionally plated, and cooked so perfectly they exploded in my mouth with the first bite, full of juicy and succulent flavor!
Needless to say, it was a fantastic breakfast, and the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had in the south!
Today we decided to have breakfast again as we enjoyed it so much yesterday. However the standards seemed to have completely changed within the space of 24 hours for the same item.
I ordered the Tres Leches Brioche French Toast again but this time there was no Tres Leches. This defeats what’s on the menu. I had to ask for the Tres Leches and on top off that the Brioche French Toast was cold.
The French Press for the tea was way bigger than yesterday’s too….(see pics)
Also the milk container had a crack all the way down. I’m sure that’s not hygienic so I didn’t use any milk.
What’s with the inconsistencies? (See pics)
Sunday 3rd August: 5 stars
A fabulous restaurant with the most wonderful staff. Judith was our server and she was fantastic! Answered all of our questions with a beaming smile and even modified my meal due to dietary restrictions.
We ordered the Tres Leches Brioche French Toast with Candied Pecans, Maple Syrup and Raspberry Jam. This has to be one of the tastiest breakfasts I have had. The portion was big so I won’t be needing lunch anytime soon!
My partner had Stone Cut Oatmeal with assorted berries and Macadamia Nuts. He enjoyed his breakfast.
The English Breakfast tea is always delicious.
The setting was luxurious and the service was impressive. Looking forward to breakfast again!
