What a gem! A world class quality French, flakey, bakery tucked into a small, quiet, historic old town community. Worth a trip from anywhere in Virginia. Everything is excellent. Regular croissant, excellent. Country ham and swiss croissant, excellent. Chocolate croissant, excellent. Guava sweet cheese pastelitos, excellent. The quiches, excellent. Excellent, excellent, excellent. If you haven’t been, figure out how to make it happen. You will be glad you did. Promise. And the vibe is nice too.

Fantastic bakery in Petersburg! The only sad thing is they need more seats because it’s always packed on weekends, especially.
We usually order two pastries & a large French press. The quiche flavors are always fantastic and they heat them up before they’re served. I also really enjoy the Shakshuka which is served piping hot with a slice of their bread. Fantastic!
Whether you’re running in to grab some pastries to take home or cooking in to sit down, it’s a great spot in downtown!

This was such a cute little bakery. They serve such fancy little bakes goods and coffees. They also give you your food on pretty China. I tried the spinach croissant, very yummy!

Cutest place ever. We got a cinnamon pecan croiffin which was a croissant cinnamon toll muffin and brioche French toast. The coffee was fantastic. 100/10 recommend this visit!! Limited hours so I made sure to prioritize!

Absolutely amazing. I’m at a loss for words. Like wow. What did I just experience. I don’t know where to start. The orange juice, like God dang, the croissant, eggs, and bacon, the Sammy‘s breakfast. The roasted tomatoes oh my God. I’ll be back. Like wow. Wow.

Cute cozy cafe in downtown Petersburg. A delightful date spot to enjoy breakfast, pastries, coffee, and tea. Hours are limited so stop in when you have a chance. Espresso machine was down and pastry choices were slim when we got there. The croissant bread pudding with crème anglaize was delicious and had great texture, it would’ve tasted perfect warmed up. Fruit Danish was a nice treat. Would probably come upon opening to have a better selection to choose from.

Our family first fell in love with Buttery Baking House when they were a start-up stand at the Williamsburg Farmer’s Market. In no time, we realized that we were not the only ones who had discovered this hidden gem. Week by week, the line grew – so much so that the market kept having to relocate them to accommodate the crowds. It is THAT good. Now they have a thoroughly charming storefront in Petersburg that got so popular that they had to quickly expand into the next-door space.
Claudia’s concoctions are incomparable to anything else and – if you are not lucky enough to live in Petersburg – it is well worth the drive.

Delicious as always. Sourdough loaf was still warm Croissants are always crispy but extremely flaky. Nothing like fresh made.

We have visited this place once before for takeout only. Today was our visit to dine in. It did not disappoint. My wife says her chi tea was the best she’s had. The spices were perfect. We shared a ham and cheese croissant, raspberry Danish with sweet cream and chocolate chip cookie. Wow! So good. You could tell they put much love and time into everything they make. We are looking forward to returning again soon.
