We went as a group of 4. We got a small table closer to the entrance to begin with. We looked forward to finally having dinner at Buttercups. We had made a reservation and I think it’s important that you make one. The place looked busy. The drinks were good, the server was busy and alright ( kept it to the point since he was busy) and the service was moderate.

At times we had to wait 15 mins to get a drink refil or just salt and pepper.

We ordered the chortoree board- the ratio of cheese to meat was unbalanced – very little cheese, too little meat and my companion and I agreed that there was not nearly enough on the board for it to be worth $35.

For our meals we ordered the fish, stake, risotto and the food was great.

I had Bolognese pasta which was great. All and all it was a good meal but the prices were a lot. We ended up paying $120+ per person ( with alcohol ) and I am not sure if it justified the ambience, food and the service.

Service was excellent, cocktails 10/10, and atmosphere was lovely. The halibut was cooked perfectly but would’ve liked a bit more flavor, and the fried chicken and fried green tomatoes were also cooked perfectly with a nice crunch, but definitely used the sauce on the side for flavor. The bread is a must and the dipping sauces were delicious. They have a kids menu and are kid friendly, and knowledgeable about gluten intolerance. The hostess was also really kind with my 8 year old. Definitely recommend and will be back.

Really having an issue with amount of food we got for the price we were charged…my husband and I got take out (which I guess was a mistake) since we have a newborn at home. We got the wedge salad and we were charged over $20 for it which seems a bit much just for the way it was presented. I also got the short rib parpadelle which came with not a lot of parpadelle…i understand this is a higher end and I wouldn’t have an issue if there was better presentation and quantity…my husband and i got 3 things in total and were charged $98 (including tax). If you’re looking to get take out from buttercup I wouldn’t recommend it.

We had an absolutely amazing experience at Buttercup, from the food to the service. Everyone had been telling us to visit, and we’re so glad we finally did! The ambiance is incredibly comfortable, and the variety of food options is both perfect and absolutely delicious. Our waiter was wonderful—friendly, attentive, and checked in on us just the right amount.

A word of advice: you absolutely need a reservation, especially for dinner. With limited seating, walking in could be very challenging. That said, it’s well worth the effort to plan ahead. We’ll definitely be coming back again soon!

For the restaurant: we did want to point out something about the seating in the bar area. There are three two-person tables, but the middle table is extremely tight. We were seated there initially and requested to move, and we noticed two other couples also asking to move because of the lack of space. It’s a small detail, but finding a way to create a bit more room in that section could really improve the experience for guests. That said, this didn’t impact our overall impression or review—just a suggestion to consider.

Highly recommend Buttercup for an exceptional meal and warm hospitality!

We crushed the specials tonight with zero regrets. Half dozen oysters to start, mushroom risotto and French onion soup for me, duck confit for him—all specials, all outstanding. Our server recommended two bottles of red that paired beautifully with everything. This is our second visit here and it definitely won’t be our last! Excellent food, great wine guidance, and specials worth ordering.

Absolutely outstanding. We sat at the bar and watched this amazing staff provide incredible flavors consistently while being professional and friendly. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Order the cornbread then short ribs!

My partner and I had the most lovely dining experience at Buttercup tonight! From start to finish the service, food, drinks, and atmosphere were exquisite. Our waiter, Al, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and coursed our food perfectly. We enjoyed the beat salad, bavette steak (special), and french onion soup (special), short rib, and bolognese–and each dish was balanced perfectly (flavor, texture, and visually). The chef, Dora, came out to chat with us, and her passion for creating this incredible food was so apparent and wonderful. I couldn’t recommend Buttercup more!

Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Warm, welcoming environment. Be forewarned..very pricey. $8 lemonade..$32 for a very simple bolognese. Your bill will include a 4% Kitchen Appreciation Fee which you are NOT required to pay in Massachusetts. (See below)
Management please note..the reputation of the establishment is only as good as your kitchen staff.

Current Rules for 2026
• Mandatory Inclusion in Menu Price: Restaurants can no longer add a “kitchen appreciation” fee as a surprise line item at the end of a bill. All mandatory fees must be incorporated into the total menu price listed for each item.

Great atmosphere and service. Food has beautiful presentation and taste. Only thing is we got two dozens oysters but one went bad and tasted rotten, which made me a little worried that I’m gonna get food poisoning. Later realized it looks like it went bad from the picture too. The price is on the higher end so I expected something higher quality.

Just moved here from Nashville, this place is a must!! Their own take on Southern cooking and it was delicious. My wife had the halibut and she really enjoyed it. I had the fried chicken and fried green tomatoes it was also really good. Of course we ordered the fried pickles, oysters, tomato and burratta stack and cornbread to start lol we’re foodies. Portions are small on the apps but that’s good because I would have easily filled up with what we ordered but the portions are a good amount for just two people to share.
