A celebrity chef restaurant that actually lives up to its reputation. Chef Alex Guarnaschelli has created a masterpiece restaurant. We dined here to celebrate an anniversary and the staff went above and beyond to make it a special night. Our server, Janet was accommodating, attentive and never overbearing.
The food was truly spectacular, and I judged extra hard because of the restaurant’s pedigree. We began with the house made rolls and butter, highly recommended and delicious. We shared the char grilled octopus which was cooked perfectly and served over a white bean puree. The Brussels sprouts salad is delicious and covered in smoked pecans making it taste remarkably like bacon with no meat. The gnocchi Mac and cheese is also delicious with gnocchi as soft as pillows.
Entrees included the pan seared branzino, perfectly cooked with crispy skin and grilled lamb rack served over french lentils. Desserts are equally stunning and creative cocktails are the bar’s wheelhouse. Truly a five star experience.

I had a fantastic dinner at Butter on 45th Street. From the moment we arrived, the service was attentive and professional, making the entire experience feel special. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with stylish décor, perfect for a great meal in Midtown. The food was excellent — beautifully prepared, flavorful, and satisfying from start to finish. We especially enjoyed the seasonal dishes and thoughtfully paired wine selections. The overall experience exceeded my expectations, and I will happily return for another memorable dinner.

Ambiance was lackluster. Food was decent. Highly recommend the veal bacon. Pork chop and short rib were good. Cauliflower had decent flavor but should have been offered as a side item. Drinks were good.

I recently visited Butter on a trip to NYC. I always make it a point to stop by, and I am never disappointed. I reached out to them prior to my trip to ask about non-alcoholic beverages (they are listed on the menu, I just overlooked them). I received a prompt response from Jennifer who included the drink menu with her response.
I was attending a taping of a show near Times Square, so I didn’t want to make a reservation in case I was running behind. I made contact with Jennifer a few times during the day, and I luckily secured a seat at the bar with no problem.
The service at the bar was superb (I regret that I didn’t catch the bartender’s name, but I visited the night of Oct. 15). I ordered the “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” mocktail and it was just wonderful. The Parker House rolls are an absolute must, do not hesitate, get them immediately.
For my dinner I ordered the “Three Ages of Prosciutto.” A plate of prosciutto? Yes. Please. Now. I really didn’t have room for dessert, but I had to try the Frog Hollow Peach Crisp. Sinful.
As always, the service at Butter was exceptional. The atmosphere was lively, but not too loud. My only complaint was that the girl a few bar stools down from me thought it would be best if she shouted her entire conversation.
I highly recommend Butter to anyone visiting NYC. Keep up the great work and I’ll see y’all next year!

Not exactly sure how the ratings here are so high but I came here with my family for dinner a few weeks ago. I was really excited to try the food because I love watching Alex cook on the food network. Out of everything we ordered. I only liked the octopus and the new york strip steak that my aunt ordered. The salmon I ordered was just ok. Not much flavor.
Everyone in my family did not like their food at all besides mom who got the ribs.
Right after dinner, as soon as I walked outside. I got really sick from the food. My husband got sick the next morning.
As much as I wanted to love this, I don’t think I’ll be back.
Inside looks great and the service was amazing though.

For the price, the service was disappointing. We were told to seat ourselves at the bar, had to move chairs to sit together, and even got our own menus. It wasn’t busy, so there’s really no excuse. The playlist also didn’t match the upscale vibe they’re going for.
The Parker rolls were the highlight, and the Ghost Margarita was a nice spicy touch. The Brussels (not pictured), gnocchi mac and cheese, and short ribs were decent, but overall, I wouldn’t return.

Some restaurants try to wow you, and often disappoint, with trendy dishes, gimmicky plating, and swanky surroundings. Butter is the opposite. The menu is humble, the food familiar from your family’s dinner table, and the service and setting makes you feel you are an invited guest. Making the simple spectacular is the mark of a great restaurant and Butter hits that lofty mark. The flavors and freshness were next level good for every item we ordered. Beginning with melt in your mouth dinner rolls, creamy and inventive gnocchi “mac” ‘n cheese, and zesty fried green tomatoes, our meal was off to a very promising start. The mains continued this trend with a garlic-lemon treated Branzino that evaporated on your tongue and the freshest chimichurri covered, cooked-to-perfection NY Strip I have ever tasted. That chimichurri should be bottled! For sides we had a hearty serving of tasty sesame toasted broccolini, which was the perfect umami complement to the broccolini’s natural bitterness and 6″ long french fries that are hands down the best fries this girl has had. Oh, and did I mention the cocktails with magical candied orange slices? We were too stuffed for dessert, so will have to make a return visit. We brought home the food we couldn’t finish. Nothing was left on our plates. This was a top 5 restaurant experience for me and I have been to some great ones in my 50+ years of eating out! Bravo, Butter!

9/27/25 Went to NYC to celebrate my hubbies 60th bday. Rounded up our trip with reservations at Butter in Time Square. Sadly, I knew there would be no chance of meeting one of our all time fav food network stars and iron chef queen, Alex Guarnaschelli, but we still wanted to go there to experience what she had created. We loved every second from the moody-classy vibe to the beautiful and friendly staff that made us feel like we were special! We had the parker rolls, the fried green tomatoes, the grilled octopus, pan seared branzino, bbq boneless beef short ribs, and the grilled broccolini. Oh and my yummy drink with watermelon icecubes, I’ll be copying that! We wanted to try everything! Every bite was above & beyond delicious!!! I was so bummed I could not take the leftovers home as our flight was the next morning. I have been craving it ever since and wish I could have it shipped to me lol! The most lovely final touch was that I had made rezzies a month prior and mentioned it was for my husbands 60th. At the end of our meal we were each brought a glass of champagne and without yelling, singing, and embarrassing my husband (he would have killed me lol) our waiter with such class and grace said “Happy Birthday, Sir”. Thank you so very much to the current chef and all of the amazing staff that took care of us! Wendy & Russ

I can’t say enough about our experience at this restaurant. From the moment the bread was served with their specialty butter on the side, I knew it was going to be a great night. The bread was baked to perfection, and the salt on top was truly chef’s kiss. The two different butters were incredible — Butter was living up to its name right from the start.
We ordered the aged steak and the branzino with broccolini and fries, plus an appetizer of the gnocchi mac and cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly. I rarely get excited about a side dish, but the broccolini with toasted sesame sauce was worth the trip to Butter all by itself.
Then came dessert — and they absolutely saved the best for last. We ordered the Raspberry Beignets and they were amazing. Perfectly baked with just the right balance of sweetness between the raspberry sauce and the sugar coating.
We don’t get excited about many places, but we’re already planning another trip to the city just so we can eat at Butter again. 6 out of 5 stars!
