If you’re a meat lover looking for the ultimate breakfast or lunch, stop scrolling and head straight for Dan’s Special. This dish is pure heaven on a plate—hearty, loaded with protein, and absolutely packed with flavor. It doesn’t matter if it’s first thing in the morning or midday; it just doesn’t get any better than this.

I’ve been wanting to visit this place for some time now, and I’m so glad I finally made it. This is a hidden spot, in the middle of nowhere, and yet, perfect location for an out of the way country store and restaurant. It’s only 15 minutes from Hwy 268 / Happy Valley area.

The food was delicious, the ambiance was super cozy and inviting, and the view from the back deck was calming.

The pizza dough is made in-house as well as all of the pasta and pizza sauces. I highly recommend trying the garlic knots with a side of marinara sauce. So good!

Holiday hours are short (see picture), so make sure they are open before making a trip out. Summer hours are 11-8 PM (Tuesday through Saturday).

Awesome place. It takes you back in time because of the atmosphere and the small history. Pizza is of the chain, meaning it is delicious. The ingredients was fresh and worth the wait. Go see for yourself.

I can’t say enough about this place. It’s certainly a hidden gem. The food is out of this world! The ladies working were wonderful to talk to. The whole experience was well worth the ride up. We’ll definitely be back.

Great little place, popped in for a bite to eat and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looks great with some interesting decor, food was good (had a pizza with generous toppings), staff were friendly and chatty. A bit off the beaten track but worth the effort to swing by.

I love this little country store! So much history in that place. The lady that runs it is super sweet and kind. And they have some of the best candy you can’t find anywhere there! This is a must stop anytime we head up to my aunt’s cabin.

2021 Update: It’s back open under new management (owners) but with some of the same team as before! The cafe menu is a bit smaller (more manageable) but just as varied. The burger options seem smaller from what I remember but the pizza menu is very similar and the pizza is the great cheesy and topping experience as before.

Some notes:

They reopened just a couple days ago so their website is just a landing page. For current info see their Facebook page, but note the menu may be smaller than the actual menu when you visit.

Inside seating has plexiglass shields between tables. There is an outside patio with tables and sun umbrellas as well as deck seating.

Some of the ‘general store’ feeling has been retained and refreshed but this isn’t the reason we go here – it’s for the food! (Still no beer though.)

The posted hours on Google Maps are likely wrong so call before you go.

Even though the address is Lenoir, it’s a medium effort drive to get there. That said, if you’re visiting in Leatherwood, Powderhorn Mtn, Blue Ridge Mtn Club or Rider’s Roost, it’s really convenient. There are a ton of fishing spots in the area so when you get tired of fishing, hiking or riding, check this place out.

From my 2019 review: The merchantile part of this location is only a memory and just what hasn’t been sold over the past two years. The pictures don’t reflect the current state.

That said, the food is good overall and the pizza is probably the best part of the menu. It’s a really great option vs driving into Lenoir or Boone if your staying in the area.
