Stopped by this Detroit location recently. The salad was actually really fresh and flavorful, and the breadsticks were on point too, nice and soft with a good amount of seasoning. The pizza itself was decent, but compared to some other Detroit spots it didn’t stand out as much. Still a solid place overall, especially for the sides, and worth a try if you’re in the area.

Pizza was a bit bland to taste. Looked great, but tasted kinda like the toppings were frozen.

Service was good. Atmosphere is OK. Stylish and good sound system, but the music playing mixed a bunch of old 90’s stuff with old boy band songs.

The gluten free pizza tasted a bit like cornbread with cheese on top, and there wasn’t enough pizza sauce to make it work well, in my opinion.

Buddy’s Pizza downtown under the Madison rooftop was top notch.
I’m from New York, so I don’t throw pizza praise around lightly. I also wouldn’t compare this to NY pizza — it’s a different lane entirely.

I’d been told by three different people to go, and I’ll admit I had some skepticism. Not because I thought it wouldn’t be good, but because I wondered if it might feel gimmicky.

Boy was I wrong. Buddy’s Detroit-style pizza was fantastic — no gimmicks, no act. Just crunchy crust, cheesy edges, rich sauce, and fresh, hot square slices done right.

We had the Margherita and the Meat Lover joint — both were fire. The Margherita was fresh and balanced, and the Meat Lover brought that rich, hearty flavor without feeling greasy or over the top.

And I’ll say this: I mess with Chicago deep dish, but this was better in my book.

Great spot before, during, or after a game. We got lucky and it was empty, but I’ve heard it gets packed. The local Michigan beer list was solid too if you’re into regional brews.

We were there on a nice chill Monday evening, as tourists. Our server was friendly and helpful. We had a window seat for a great view of people passing by. The pizza came out hot and delicious. It’s a great place to try a yummy slice of Detroit style pizza. We used the people mover to get here so that was convenient.

My friend wanted to try Detroit-style pizza during his first visit, so I took him to Buddy’s Pizza right by the Lions stadium. Even at 3 PM, it was busy. He ordered the four-square pizza and loved it. I had the spaghetti with meat sauce—so good. I’ll definitely be bringing my husband and my brother next time he visits me.

How can you visit Detroit without trying Detroit-style pizza?
That signature rectangular shape + those crispy, caramelized edges = pure happiness.
And the funniest part? All four of us ordered the exact same flavor without planning it — teamwork at its finest

My partner loves pizza and he loved this place. We had cheese fries and the vegetable pizza. Crust was perfection and so was the proportion of toppings. We’re not from Detroit so can’t comment on the authenticity of this but it was delicious. That’s all that really matters, right?

Also, service was a bit slow (we didn’t even notice) and our server brought us some free bread.

I’m generally not a deep dish pizza person but this pizza blew me away! It was light for what I thought would be something heavy and greasy. Happy to see this spot thriving while staying true to their OG ingredients and 1946 roots!

They made us wait too much for a couple of pizzas, the restaurant was not even busy. The waitress was not very attentive, she forgot to bring refills. Pizzas arrived at our table after 40 minutes. At the entrance there’s a sign that says that 20% gratuity fee will be included on the check. I believe the waitress didn’t deserve 20% tip. She didn’t earn it. I don’t recommend this place. Portions are not big enough for the price.

Great Detroit style pizza. Place was busy and we still got sat relatively quickly and our waitress was incredibly polite and apologetic for the food wait (which wasn’t too bad ) We got the Detroit style and the one she recommended with Canadian bacon, onions, and blue cheese and both were delicious. Highly recommended.
