If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to eat lunch inside a train while being absolutely demolished by one of the best bacon cheeseburgers of your life… Buckeye Express Diner is your stop .

I rolled in on a Thursday around 11:30, just as the lunch rush was waking up. Before ordering, I did what any responsible adult would do: wandered through the caboose and baggage cars like a kid at a theme park trying to pick the best ride. The caboose cupola looked like the most fun — they even added a little table for two — but the climb up looked like something my insurance wouldn’t approve . Kids would LOVE it though.

I settled into the baggage car, surrounded by rail lanterns, railfan photos, and Buckeye memorabilia — basically a diner, a museum, and a sports bar had a very charming baby.

Now the food… oh man.

My server (sweetest human alive — wish I’d caught her name) brought everything out fast.

• Mozzarella sticks: so good I couldn’t choose between marinara or ranch… so I chose both. Zero regrets .
• Bacon cheeseburger: absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned, cooked to a perfect medium, thick, juicy — the kind of burger that makes you stare at it for a second like, “Where have you been all my life?”
• Fresh‑cut fries: crispy, golden, perfectly seasoned. Basically fry royalty .

By the time I finished, I was stuffed — in the “I need a nap but I’m also very happy” kind of way.

After lunch, I explored the grounds, checked out the steam engine, the other equipment, and of course the world’s largest bobblehead, because how do you NOT go look at that?

Such a fun, unique, delicious adventure. If you’re anywhere near the area, this place is absolutely worth the stop.

This is a great place to go and the food is amazing, best homemade burgers and fresh cut fries right next to the world’s largest bobblehead. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable and very kind. The hamburger was so fresh and the best I have ever had. Also, the Woody Burger was made of a special sauce of horseradish and bacon. Absolutely amazing. We will definitely be back for sure.

My husband and I drove up from Springfield to try this place and it was totally worth it! We arrived around 12:30 not much of a line. Food came out pretty quickly.I got the Locomotive Buckeye Pounder and my husband got the Mushroom Swiss Burger and we were definitely not disappointed!! The burgers were delicious fries were excellent,very sizeable portions. The service was great. The atmosphere was very friendly and fun. They have picnic tables outside or you can dine inside the train car. There’s a little sand box area for the littles to play in. Motorcycle parking in the middle and Michigan fans parking across the street lmao. Unfortunately they do not have public restrooms you have to go across the street to the gas station jk inside joke We enjoyed it very much! Highly recommend!

Home of the largest bobblehead in the world. Tables are inside of a train car that is very Ohio State themed! My grilled cheese was not melted well, but the soft fresh cut fries were delicious! Service was great. Fun experience overall.

We had an absolutely fabulous time today at the buckeye Express with our 4-year-old grandson who has an infatuation for trains. Eating in the train car was such a great experience for him, and it was decorated for Christmas and as always, decorated with buckeye memorabilia. He couldn’t stop talking about all the pictures of trains everywhere. The food was surprisingly good with fresh cut french fries, battered onion rings, and the very best chicken nuggets. This was not just lunch, it was an experience, especially for our little guy. To top it off, our server was so sweet and helpful the whole way through. This deserves a return trip.

Amazing restaurant and service was top notch!! Very cool vibes and view from the rail car. The food was fantastic and the burger raised the bar. Can’t remember having a better burger from any food joint and loved the fresh cut fries. The perch was scrumptious too, as well as the generous portion of Dutch apple cheesecake! Can’t say enough about this place, looking forward to visiting the Buckeye Express again. Loved it!

This place was amazing! The food was delicious and my kids loved eating inside the old train. Very unique place, awesome menu, and really great prices! Highly recommend checking out their all you can eat fish special on Fridays! We live an hour and 20mins away, but we will definitely be heading back there to eat again!

If you are an Ohio state fan and love delicious burgers and hand cut fries, this is your place! We were on our way home from a game and had to stop here to eat. Awesome staff, super friendly and delicious food. I had the woody burger and the bacon horseradish sauce was so yummy. My husband had the pizza burger and said it was great. Next time we go to an Ohio state game we are coming back to get a burger! Thank you for the best experience!

Dining inside a beautifully restored passenger car is such a cool experience — it’s cozy, clean, and unlike anything else I’ve tried. The staff is so friendly and makes you feel right at home, and the portions are generous enough that you leave completely satisfied. And the food? Truly delicious. Every dish we tried was flavorful and cooked perfectly. It’s one of those spots that feels special from the moment you walk in, not just because of the unique setting but also because everything — service, food, atmosphere — is done so well.
