Reviews
The business is run by a few lovely ladies who are so hardworking—they were constantly smiling and making sure the seating area was kept clean and tidy. My family and I enjoyed it so much that we returned for a second time. If you want high-quality fish and chips with great service, Bub’s is the place to go!
Where guilt, happiness, and cholesterol hold hands and jump into the sunset together
Garlic Prawns with Salad & Chips
The prawns were so plump they clearly trained with a personal trainer. Perfect char, a whisper of herbs, and that gentle garlic kick that says,
“Yes, you will smell like success for the next four hours.”
The salad was fresh enough to make me question whether I should apologise to it before eating. Cherry tomatoes exploding like they are starring in their own action film.
Fish Fillet
Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Zero oil overload. It flaked apart with that confident ease of someone who knows they have done well in life. Honestly, the fish felt like it had a degree.
Calamari Rings
Crisp. Golden. Light. The kind of calamari that makes you say,
“Maybe life is not so bad after all.”
Eaten with chips that were sturdy, chunky, and ready for their responsibilities. No soggy nonsense here.
Bonus Points for Lemon Wedges
Fresh, bright, and generous. Not those tiny lemon corners some places give that make you feel judged.
Bub Famous Fish & Chips delivers honest, generous portions without trying too hard. It is comfort food that behaves like gourmet food. Everything tastes like the chef actually cared about your happiness.
If you want a place that lifts your spirits without lifting your blood pressure too much, this is it.
Would I come back?
Absolutely. Probably too soon.
It came loaded with:
6 Aussie prawns – fresh, sweet, and perfectly chilled.
6 local oysters – incredibly fresh and briny.
1 grilled salmon steak – crispy skin, juicy and tender inside.
2 BBQ prawn skewers – smoky and full of flavour.
BBQ octopus – tender with a nice char, not chewy at all.
2 scallops mornay – rich, creamy, and perfectly cooked.
There was about a 40-minute wait, but it was during a busy period over the school holidays, so it was completely understandable — and honestly, worth every minute. The quality and freshness of the seafood really stood out, and the portion size was great for sharing.
Service was friendly, and the atmosphere had that classic Aussie coastal charm where you can enjoy and eat sitting oceanside. Bub’s definitely lived up to the hype!!!
I ordered the Family Feast set and asked if it could all be crumbed. The lady at the counter said they could only do the 2 fish fillets crumbed and the rest would be battered. I agreed, but when I got the order, everything was battered instead. A bit disappointing as I was really hoping for the crumbed fish. On the positive side, the fish and chips weren’t oily, portions were decent, and the food was okay overall.
Originally, I had a couple of other spots in mind, but they were both closed—so Bub’s became the choice of the day.
On a horrible, windy, rainy day—the perfect weather for a hot, hearty meal—it felt like a ghost town around the area.
Service was quick, and the food arrived just as fast.
I ordered the barramundi, which came out with a beautifully crispy batter (and of course, the mandatory sprinkle of chicken salt). The fish was cooked perfectly—tasty, flaky, and fresh. The chips, however, were a bit of a miss—not terrible, but not as good as the fish deserved.
Parking was easy, with spots available right out the front.
I can imagine this place would be buzzing on a sunny day, with harder-to-find parking and longer wait times—a good sign of a popular local spot.
I’d definitely come back—next time, hopefully with better weather and maybe a bigger appetite
The family feast is perfect for a family. The fish was soooo fresh, the battery just perfect. The calamari rings… my fussy child ate them with no complaints. No stringyness.
Definitely recommend for a quick feed with a light seabreeze.
Thank you Bub’s
